I have a 5x10 perm. With a sunflower heater and I can't turn it down cool enough to not roast me!!! If you put some sort of vent in the high corners that might help? Not trying to be a know-it-all, just my 2 cents.

If you are using either as a form of heat you should have a vent for fresh air.  It provides fresh air not only for you, but the heater can run more efficiently.  I have windows that open on both my shacks, and when occupied they are always cracked.  I open up the flaps in my portable too every time.  If your eyes kind of burn and you get that faint headache, that's why.  I was going to put a wood heater in my 4x8, but I think I am going to stick with my propane heater.  I will put one in a larger shack though, if I ever get the OK to build one again!

yea you guys but he got the wood burner for free and he has free wood to burn, how much did you spend on your heater and then add up all the propane that you will use, he will spend a total of $0,zero dollars . just my thought

That's a nice looking shack. I'm still trying to get the guys motivated to build one here. Looks like I might have to get things moving to get them moving.

The shack is done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D :o :o

made a bench seat that turns into a bed on bottom and a bunk bed on top of that. its a 3 hole shack, I made for 2 guys. It has two vents on opposite corners, with a tiny wood burner in the corner. treated everything on the floor along with tin siding. I built it to last 20 years. I went with a small wood burner because its free to heat the shack. I plan on using it every weekend in the winter, propane cost add up fast if your staying over night every weekend. around 60 hours each week. I do have a indoor save buddy heat for sleeping at night though, along with a carbine monoxide detector.

In about a week I'll be starting my portable shack, and will post info and pics on here.

I weighted the shack today and it came out to exactly 600 lbs.

not bad for 5/8" floor, 3/16 wood panelling, steel roof, 2.5"x 1.5" studs. two bunks, wood burner

I thought it would of weighed more.

I'm thinking I could put it out on 7"-8" of ice?? how much ice do you recomend me putting it out on?

how much does a polaris 500 ATV weight?

Loving the look of your shack! You have inspired me it is exactly what I have been looking to build.  I'm assuming you've had it out on the ice now, how do you like her?  Any changes you would have done or will do to it?

Hi! If never you got trouble with your runners in snow or whatever because of the 600lbs and their thickness , here's the way i do and it's not add a lot of weight!

Simply cut a 2 by3 and add both peices at the bottom of them before put your plastic or aluminium sheet.

I was going to break a world record when the clock rang.....

I would bet that your brother would catch more fish with his shack on the lake than he will in his driveway!  lol get her out there and show us some pics in action, When it is safe though. (not sure where you are from)

Make sure you put a couple of rattle reel in too.  we like ours, play some cards and what not till we hear one go off.  like the design of the shack too, I would like to have a little one just about like that to leave out on the lake and run out to when ever i am able to.   hopefully next year i can do one quick in the garage before the wife finds out i am making another shack.

Well I sold this shack just a week ago, and now Im building my new one!! ;D

the bottom frame and runners will be 1"x1" steel. total frame will weight 65 lb. compare to my last shack it was 110 lbs with the treated wood. I had to replace one of the runners this year because it snapped in half. It wont happen with the steal runners on my new shack.

Im having a buddy weld the steel this week

I have 5'x4' aluminum sheets for the exterior, I'll be framing with 1.5"x1.5" studs.

Im picking up some old crank out aluminum camper windows today!

I'm trying to make this shack as light as possible, my last shack weigh 600 lbs.

I want to be able to pull this one with a snowmobile.

here is a picture of the steel frame laid out, not welded yet.

stay tuned!!
