Building boats on the ice
« on: Mar 12, 2010, 03:55 PM »
I ice fish with Fred a lot. He's been building a boat on the ice while he waits for flags.
He talks about dimensions, what it will need, what the motor will be, modifications, etc.
This goes on summer and winter actually.  For as long as I've known him.

He's acquired two fiberglass boats over the years. He starts to modify them w/ a sawzall, and then something won't go right and they get chopped up into little pieces and go to the dump. I think he's gonna buy another one.

He's already got a good 14' fishing boat.

I don't think he'll ever get the perfect boat. Ever.

If you solve the problem, you don't get to sit back and build the boat in your head.
It's the journey, not the destination.

It's an addiction... I do the same, then get home, the wife asks where the money is and it all dissolves into the dream it really is......

I've seen pictures of ice castles, and its beyond my imagination to have such luxury on the ice.
I use a portable shelter.
If you get time, give us a picture of your accomplishment.

"If you solve the problem, you don't get to sit back and build the boat in your head.

Reminds me of a line from a Tom Waits song, goes something like this:
Most vagabonds I know don't ever want to find the culprit that remains the object of their long relentless quest.
The obsession's in the chasing and of the apprehending.
It's the pursuit you seek and never the arrest

A reference to Tom Waits and ice fishing? Gotta tell you guys -- you all just went up several notches in my opinion. BTW, Planning the journey gets even more fun than the reality of the journey or the destination at some point. Thanks for the story!
