Stone Lake 3-4-10
« on: Mar 04, 2010, 08:58 PM »
Got out on Stone Lake in LaPorte today and tried for some perch. Had a good time and caught about 10 with 4 keepers. Caught them on blue jiggin rap tipped with a beemoth. No takers on my glow jig.  Frozen slush with plenty of ice underneath. I fished out from the beach. Thanks Footdoc for the directions. I think I ended up fishing your holes from the other day. Do perch pretty much turn off after sundown? That was what I experienced. It was good to get on a new lake.

Common for perch to shutoff aftersundown...... although the spot you were in, or near where you were can produce walleyes at dark....

Nice to see you got a few, the ice looks good . I hope it holds for the weekend

Good for you Crappiehunter!  Ya, from looking at your pics, it looks like the footprint of my one man shantie.  I worked (showed up at the office - rumor is I never actually work!) yesterday and finished about 3PM.   Eric had the day free so we headed up to the ditch and did some casting for coho with no luck.  Yes, I find the perch are not active after sunset or rarely before sunrise.  I am just a little frustrated that I cannot fish this weekend due to family obligations but I am going to have a good time with my family.  I hope we can get out fishing and good luck this weekend.

Nice job crappiehunter, cant beat some good perch.
Glad you shared the pics and info. That FootDoc is a Perch expert,
he gave me a perch once from a local lake that had to be 16 inch at least.
be safe and save some for us.

Does anyone try for these perch at first ice out- I have a friend from Wisconsin that says they really tear them up after first ice out?

Used to do it all the time years ago.  Not on stone but other perch lakes.  You can really hammer them if you know the flats they spawn on.  Just follow the boats full of Amish...they will take you right to them and cuss at you when you get too close.   :roflmao:

What does a boat full of Amish look like?  Do the Amish paint there boats black like their buggys?

Just a half gallon for the whole boat?

The Polish and Russians up here each have their own half gallon of vodka, but I doubt these people have a nice Triton, half don't even have augers.
Real fisherman don't yield to the weather.
