I learned that during a tournament when you're fishing salmon people HAVE TO drive through your tip up spread.
I also saw and used a flasher for the first time.
I also learned that 15 tip ups is a lot for a solo trip when its -10 out...  ;D

I need to pay more attention to details like....lure type/size, color, bait/no bait, jigging motion etc.  I think it could have turned some bad days into better ones.

1.  Chewing spree's are not chewing when stored in a shanty.
2.  Once you have a 10" hole, you can't go back to a smaller one.
3.  Ice buckets from hotel rooms work great for minnow buckets!
4.  Gas will not stay in the auger when the gas cap is off.
5.  "Wonderbread" has its place in icefishing.
6.  Fishing line won't work when placed on a lantern by accident.
7.  Making friends here this year has been the best part of my year.
8.  My Frabill shanty is too small.
9.  Walleyes make me act crazy.
10.  My Dad did a great thing when he introduced me to ice fishing when I was 6.

The 10% spot that supposedly has 90% of the fish, will rarely if ever be the same spot as your first group of holes. And as always , it's not what you say but how you say it. Tight lines to all and hope ya'll make it to next ice.

1.  I learned that a few dozen guys complain about the loss of 10-12 parking spaces.

2.  I learned that when the bite is "off", most fishermen stay home instead of finding the fish, and would rather sit home and complain about the lack of fish.

3.  I learned a new way to catch slob perch when (most) everyone else is going home empty-pailed.

4.  I learned that no matter how many times people are spoken to about leaving trash on the ice, there's always somebody new to take their place.

5.  I learned that even though somebody fishes a body of water for a straight week and knows there was open water 2 days earlier, they just have to try and get to "that spot" and risk their lives for a mess of perch.

6.  Extremely muddy water sends the perch and pike/walleyes to deep, deep water.  (and they come back slow).

7.  You CAN catch pike in 40 FOW.

2.  I learned to have some confidence in using a jiggin rap
3.  I learned I love to catch suspended crappie
4.  I learned I love fishing with a bunch of friends on the ice
5.  I learned to use glow jigs
6.  I learned some new lakes-Sylvan, Winona, Max, Stone and  Flint.
7.  I learned to keep my vex charged or what happens when you don't!

1. You can catch a mud puppy on a tip up.
2. Don't get your hopes up when you hook a nice fish while jigging for suspended crappie at night... it is just going to be a bullhead.
3. I can catch keeper perch incidentally, but never when I am actually targeting them.
4. This board has a lot of great members.
5. A noodle rod and Schooley reel are the best thing going when fishing shallow water.
6. I had a bad spool of clear 2 lb mono that I was tying leaders with.  I only lost about 10 jigs before I figured that out.
7. Don't be afraid to try something off the wall if what you're doing isn't working.
8. Never trust a heron.
9. Fireline sucks when it's really cold out... it freezes and has a lot of memory.  Otherwise, I am starting to like it.
10. Bunny suits have value beyond Easter.

Yeah, if you have a permanent shack and it doesn't sit close to the ice, fix it so it does, I sat in my permy a lot this year just getting pie eyed and doing nothing productive waiting for tip-ups to pop with poor results.  I barely jigged this year because I wanted to spend as much time in the shack as I could, but that made my season terrible.

I either need to start over or retrofit my shack somehow to be a drop-down.

Learned several things this year.

1.  Gaff makes a very nice ice fishing rod.

2.  Stay light and be mobile.  If you ain't markin' fish, move!!

3.  Dull auger blades will frustrate you until you replace them.

4.  Tica Cetus GV500 reels are awesome!!

5.  After you've done it a couple of times, a mile walk to a hot spot isn't that far.

6.  If you think there is enough snow on the ice that you don't need to wear your cleats, take time to put 'em on anyway.  You won't be sorry.

7.  You don't have to catch fish to have a good time.

8.  Taking someone icefishing for the first time is rewarding.

9.  Seeing them catch their first fish through the ice is even more rewarding.

10.  Pulling the rope out too far on your gas auger isn't a good thing.

Friend of mine learned this last year, although the hard way.  He had to take apart his recoil 3 times.

I got a icegator last year, I learned it is way eaiser to drill holes with it verses the hand crank. I also learned that by being able to drill more wholes it gives me more oppertunities to find the fish , and if you need to hole hop to put them on the ice it was great for that, also helpped me out catching perch this year by putting so many holes out so I could run and gun and try to follow the schools around..

I found some new baits that worked this year for me that were deadly on everythiing, Dimond jigs love them...

yep, Waxworm made a post saying unless the fish are aggresive they won't hit your jig if its spinning. And he's right. Most never know if their jig is spinning unless they site fish or use a UW cam.

Don't know what yours weighs, but it's probably more than an ATV.  Did you drop it in early or late?

1.  Sight fishing is one of the most frustrating and rewarding ways to ice fish in clear water.

2.  Strip the length of line you fished with last time out off your reel, retie and once it gets over stretched, repeat  the process.

3.  If you are marking fish, and they just park on your jig without biting, your jig might be spinning.

4.  Fish in some lakes are suicidal!!

5.  Fish in other lakes refuse to bite no matter how hard you try.

6.  You can be fishing within 3 feet of someone else with the same lure and never mark or catch a fish while they put 22 keeps on the ice!

7.  Cleaning 200 panfish 3 weekends in a row will make your hands cramp!

8.  Make sure you bring a bucket to sit on when hole hopping.  Squating like a catcher for 2 or 3 hours will make you feel 80 yrs old by 7pm that night!!

9.  Those fishing without electronics are at a severe disadvantage when the water is more than 10 ft deep.

10.  Amish like to eat 5 inch bluegills and 3lb bass!   :roflmao:

11. Cutting a hole 3 feet from your Brother in law when his vex is lit up like a christmas tree and he is pumping the fish out of his hole will shut the bite down!!  :roflmao:

12.  It is nice fishing in 46 degree temps with no wind 3 days in a row.

Ha, again I must mention that the treshold of frustration for some is very low.
