does anybody have any tips on how to catch more crappies after dark i have tried differnt things from putting glow sticks down a hole about five feet away from where i was fishing to jigging all night i just cant seem to figure it out anybody can you give a newbie a couple of tips it is hard to keep moving around when you have to much gear i am going to try going early in the morning like 3 am and see if that helps thanks in advance for any help safe ice and tight lines to all

suspended is almost always the case experiment at dif spots in the column if u are not using a flasher

Unless you know the Crappie are there you will need a flasher or a cheap fish finder. I started with a 35 dollar one and modified it to work while ice fishing. If you catch crappie in deep water in the spring or summer, start there for the night bite. Don't give up to early, just because the sun goes down doesn't mean its time. If you don't have a flasher I would stay just off the bottom to start. I also pinch the head off a minnow and drop it down the hole then put the horizontal jig into the body so the hook sticks out its back a little. Don't use too big of a jig, and use one that glows. I prefer a blue color glow. I do this because the minnow can't swim away from them. Have confidence that Crappie are there, then stay longer and find out what time they bite. I have saved myself plenty of time by knowing what time it starts. Instead of running straight out after work, I take a nap, then get up and go fishing awhile. Much more productive. And use a sensitive bobber.

They will most likely be suspended over very deep water at night fall, glo jigs preferably red glow, waxies and maggots. And a good fish finder helps so you know when to work your jig and when to stop.

Forget the glow sticks and get a bright latern and set it so the light shines in the hole. Crappies will move through in waves. Good bite for a while than nothing than here they cone again. The lakes I fish don't have a night bite. Maybe your lake doesn't have one either. Fish higher in the water column.

i have found that when fishing kettle creek the only time to catch crappie is when its dark they wont bit when it gets daylight i tried it this morning it was good while it was dark but when it got daylight they shut right off thanks for the info i will try them all and keep them comming i am still learning

so fishing the early AM is about as productive as daylight. we ought to stay with the evening fishing and try a few different locations.just hoping that we can get out this weekend.

How shallow are you fishing at night? Try fishing out on the first drop off from where you are catching them at night. They can't have gone far. They are moving out to deeper water during the day and coming in during the evening.

i am fishing the deepest part of the lake but most of the time you got to move the jigs up or down to find that sweet spot if you know what i mean it is just strange that when it becomes daylight they shut right off
