« on: Feb 14, 2010, 03:27 AM »
last year i must have been checked 20 times by wardens on sleds.this year....zilch. must be the ice conditions & lack of snow is keeping them off their sleds & my line in the water.
....or they just hate walking. ;)2

Twice, Sabins pond and waterbury res.
I look forward to talking to wardens. You can learn alot about where the fish are on other bodys of water.
Very true. Had a nice chat with the one who visited me.

Checked 2 weeks ago on Iroquios.  Warden gave me grief for not having my flip up portable labeled.  He went back to the access, and brought back a Sharpie.  All shanties must have name/address on them.

Have they been checking your  bait?  I just wonder how much they actually are monitoring that.

I had my license checked opening weekend and that has been it so far this year, also he didn't ask to see the bait license.  In fact i have never had a warden ask to see my bait license.

Yup, and its got to be permanently attached/written on shanty.  Warden said "read the regulations".  It doesn't however say
how big the name and address has to be. ;D

Well I guess thats how the Canadians are getting away with introducing the alewifes here.

The first time he checked he really gave me the shakedown...."can I see your license? where is your bait from? when did you buy it? can I see your receipt? can I look in your bucket?" It was kind of funny, I knew I would check out just fine but I still had that nervous "I'm getting searched" feeling. not actually that pleasant. But its good to see some level of enforcement I guess. The second time he just asked where my trophy was (because we had chatted pike fishing the week before) and gave me no trouble. Nice guy, and I usually get a flag after being checked so its all good.

We were checked last weekend at Hortonia derby.  I'm sure they're on Bomo this weekend.
I'd rather be fishing!

from  what i understand the wardens can't ask you for your bait reciept because  it's only a transportation reciept. we are allowed to keep our bait as long as we want on the ice so we aren't expected to keep every reciept all season long in the shanty. i believe we only have to show a reciept if the bait is in a vehicle or on dry land.

I usually get ckecked a couple times a year out by the sand bar.  So far this year I only saw one warden up by the drawbridge.  They often know where the fish are biting because they're always out there so I kind of like running into them.

Im pretty sure the receipt says your bait is only good for 90 hours from the time of purchase... but i could be wrong

the receipt is proof of where it came from.

And it is legal to trap bait as long as it is not transported in a motor vehicel from the body of water it came from. So even if you dont have a recipt the wardens cant really prove you have done anything illigeal... espicilly if you have a shanty with a minowtrap hanging in it ;)

you only have 90 hours to transport your bait. once it's on the lake you can keep it indefinately.

That was my understanding too. Transport permit. Free and clear to catch/trap your bait on the body of water you're fishing on, but cannot remove the bait from that body. ?
