When the ice is gone
« on: Feb 06, 2010, 06:31 PM »
Just courious who puts the ice fishing gear and sled/shelter away and hops in their boat? Or do some have a little down time between fishing seasons? My family and I will be crappie fishin at ice off along with some walleye fishin and campin and trout fishin the opener. I got my wife into fishin, but I haven't gotten her on the ice yet, but maybe sometime soon ;D  I don't know if this is off topic or not, so I guess if it is, it'll get moved.

Well iceman clem I fish the opener there every year and camp there , so maybe I'll see ya. Normally we would take our motorhome, but we sold it because we only used it 1 time a year (the opener) at little pine and then it sat at the riverlots for 6 months. My wife and I decided not to get the riverlots anymore starting this year, and instead use that money for cabin rentals and go to different lakes about 1 weekend a month. So we are renting one of those yerts (round cabin) at Little Pine this year.

no down time here either... im usually trout fishing(hardcore) then crappies some and also when the strippers run up the river here, they are fun to catch if you can get into them! then comes the summer and river fishing for smallmouth, channel cats and carp.  ;D

I just picked up my first (used) boat less than a year ago and haven't had a chance to use it much.  It's a bare bones aluminum v-hull.  Any suggestions for where/what to do with it at ice out?

I will be taking the kids out for the stockie opener, but all of this talk about crappies and walleye sure has me intrigued.

AS SOON AS THE ICE IS UNSAFE THE RODS COME OUT. THE PIKE SPAWNING RUN COMES FIRST, THEN THE CRAPPIE AND STRIPERS IN APRIL AND MAY. AFTER THAT ITS NIGHT FISHING FOR STRIPERS, WALLEYE, AND CATS TILL AUGUST.
