what are you jigging for and where are you fishing? I love tipping the micros with waxies or the forage minnow w/ Berkley gulp. Sometimes a larger jig(maybe airplain style) w/ a small teaser just above it. You could also check out some cool underwater vids on you tube where you can actually see the hook up. That is really goo in understanding what triggers them, depending on species/depths.

Bob - get yourself a #4 Salmo Chubby Darter (perch color) and a 1.5 inch swedish pimple (silver)  - both deadly baits. Tip the pimple with the new GULP waxies or maggots - you will catch fish. Drop bait to the bottom and reel up a foot. Jig slowly and let lure sit still - 85% of my hits are when the lure is still. Good luck! - Porter

Not sure if you have a Vexilar or not, but if I'm going out jigging for ....well...anything, then I wouldn't go without it.  You can drill a series of holes and tell whether there is anything down the hole.  You can eliminate some unproductive water this way.  Sometimes you land right on the fish and you think it can't be this easy.  Other times you have to move and move to find fish...and realize it is not this easy.  Its a nice tool to have.

Well, some of us don't have them because the wife thinks it's a waste of money!
I keep telling her she's a waste of money too, but she is still there!!! I will buy one at the end of the season when on sale. Unless someone wants to sell me their old one...

deep and slow for perch ,i let the lure fall to the bottom reel up 1 or 2 turns jig it once or twice then dead stick about 4 to 7 seconds and repeat .once you get a perch pop it's eyeball out by pushing from underneath  pull the eye out and put it on your lure .i like kastmasters and small fiord spoons  chrome ,gold ,rain bow trout colored.
