Well - It appears we have some portage cry babies on this chat!  Portage Lake is a wonderful lake with arguabley the best trophy fish opportunities in the UP!  That does not mean that it is easy!  It is a tough lake to fish in open and hard water!  I have spent the better part of 15 years fishing portage lake (chassell bay) and have been rewarded and kicked in the balls.  I have taken walleyes over 30 inches -  pike over 40 - once caught 48 wallyes in the month of December.  With all that being stated!  This year I have managed to ice only four walleyes.

I remember back in the early 2000's I walked to the humps at least 10 times to fish - not a walleye to be had.

What is the message:  Portage Lake is great and it sucks - you need to put more than a few trips on it the receive the rewards it can produce!

I don't know what you are saying here ???, I know very well that portage lake is a lake that gives you a great opportunity to catch some trophy sized fish, but portage lake isn't what we are criticizing. we were simply saying that you can't really call fish that are barely legal monsters. i saw no "portage lake cry babies" on this chat

7 long hours of fishing.....you make it sound like a miserable thing.     at least you were out fishing....catching fish is a bonus!   i look at fishing as my form of exercise.             Bigmike  i totally agree with you on your last post!

If you caught those huge pike in the tourney you would have placed. Great work on removing the last few pike from the Portage. I think we should all be proud that years of overexploitation is finally paying off. I know I put in my part.

I was trying really hard to keep my hands off the keyboard, but it's as if you read my mind and posted it Arn. I was going to give it the benefit of the doubt and say 15 1/2".
