As you know, the Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife periodically sends out informational emails to our online customers. We only send these e-mails out to customers who have indicated that they would like to receive them.

Recently, we had a Freedom of Access Act request from an individual who represents an organization for our customer e-mail address list. The Freedom of Access Act is a statute that requires a state agency to provide public records to anyone upon request. Our initial response to the individual was that our customer e-mail address list was not a public record and was therefore not covered by the Freedom of Access Act. The individual appealed our decision with the Maine Attorney General's office that ruled in favor of the individual and directed IF&W to provide our customer e-mail address list to the individual. Therefore, we have recently provided our customer e-mail address list to the requesting individual per the direction of the Maine Attorney General's Office.

The list contains only e-mail addresses, no other personal data is on the list. We wanted you to know that we did everything in our power to protect your privacy and apologize in advance for any issues this may cause you.

odd thing is i didn't get it, and i've been using MOSES, getting emails from IF&W for years?

but i know a lot of folks that did?

Same here use moses all the time and receive the newsletter and fishing reports regualrly...I did not receive this email

apparently they have multiple email lists?

i have a few emails in to some folks trying to get more details on who put in the FOIA request.....it could be no big deal, but it could be concerning, too

i'll keep you posted.....i suspect i can't get actual information on who put it in w/o filing a FOIA request myself, but i may be wrong

Harry's name is not mentioned on the board of directors list nor is it on the staff list. All I can find with a quick lookover is a quote by him on the bottom of this page.

Maybe they don't list the 'Grunts'!

I do get a kick out of his TV show though that is supposed to be about 'Outdoors in Maine' and he nonchalantly mentions he's hunting or fishing in NB Canada!!!

Seems he's either on the Kennebec fishing for Stripers or he's on the Merrimache' fly fishing or hunting Caribou in New Brunswick!

I truly think he doesn't know where the borders are...

"The Maine Sportsman" has a bbs forum. Here
"Sportsman's Alliance of Maine" does not.

You had me looking all over the SAM site till I tried a search for forums and found the link to the one at TMS. $:-\$

if it were simply SAM looking to increase membership, would this have been as nasty an exchange? why the FOIA, the refusal, the appeal to the AG?

You can always count on the good ole State of Maine, Maybe they should have asked
first if we wanted to be taken off the list prior to releasing it. Then they wouldn't have any email's to give out then. Maybe we all need to ask for the list, I hear it pretty easy to get.
