I have one- it's a very basic design that I have had no problems with.
I'm not a huge fan of tip-ups and often while I'm concentrating on my rods someone else will yell at me "Flag!!!"

they're pretty much similiar to beavers dams
What the hell is that supposed to mean, Red eyes?

Beaver Dams are another type of Tip-Up......

They just copied the BD look and style for those who only buy wooden based tip-ups.

Beaver Dams are another type of Tip-Up......

I have 8 or 9 Beaver Dams and like them on the somewhat rare occasions that I tipup fish.  I drive by the BD tipup factory on a daily basis so I am a little biased.  The Frabill is definitely an imitation of it.  The price on the Frabill is nice.  I'd consider using one for Pike but walleyes I wouldn't.  When I checked out the Frabills in the store the shaft had a noticable (to me) wobble which may or may not spook a lite biting walleye.  Both companies have websites in case anyone wants to look into them for themselves.

i've used both and they have both worked just fine.  I'm a little biased towards pike and bass fishing, so I wouldn't know if the frabill spools spook the walleyes.  But the frabills are worth the money

Hello,

I use Frabill classics. The Beaver Dams are alot nicer but it depends on what your willing to spend. Ive never had a problem with the Frabills. pike, bass or eyes. doesnt matter.

I use the South Bend versions they all are the same basic design... I like them the wind doesn't set them off or tip them over.. The only down fall is they can get covered with snow pretty dam fast so its a good idea to put a marker like a stick by them I almost  lost a couple in a storm a few years back...

A friend of mine bought some to leave in the shanty. He comes out to fish once in awile. (by fish I mean drink and b*ll***t). They seem to be ok for the price. I agree with Blackice, they dont seem to be as smooth as a BD for Walleye, but for pike they are pretty solid.
If you jig it...... They will come.
