Will there be ice on Buff. Bill this Saturday?
« on: Jan 14, 2010, 02:04 PM »
I was going to go to Yellowtail this weekend, but with the lack of minnows I might have to just go to Buff. Bill.  Do you all think the ice is holding up?  Heck, maybe I'll hit Marcum for perch.  What to do, what to do?

If it stays this warm the ice may be rotten by next weekend for sure.  Drove by yesterday and there wasn't much open water just the normal place along the North Fork by the dust pond had open water with a guy bank fishing and 3 guys ice fishing.  Seems this happend last year too, ice by Xmas and then 2 weeks later POOF gone.

There were plenty of brave souls on the rez today but it's wet on top for sure. The pressure ridges are open in spots. Tomorrow will let it melt a little more with it barely freezing tonight. I will be braving the west end on Saturday but only with my floatable Artic Armor on ;)

It's been blowing since Monday I bet a steady 25 mph all day and night long.  Even this morning here in Cody its blowing, so you know what its doing up there.

I was out dancing around the fire last night trying the best to make the ice gods happy!

mallardmuncher ---  Try dancing around the fire going the other way  or  something else. What ever you are doing is NOT helping :(
I just gave up on Buff Bill for this weekend after a call from some friends to sled into a Splake hot spot- Be carefull on any ice thats left Saturday

I went to BB this AM.  The lakers were biting Monday and a little slower on Tuesday.  There was plenty of ice today and a few people on it.  There were also two shantys on Beck.

I opted out because of the wind tho.

Went to Lower Sunshine instead.  No wind there.  We got 4 cutts, a splake and a laker.

Well I hope Buffalo Bill was better than Yellowtail.  Spent all day yesterday out there and got one ling and a sauger.  Out of 30 lines those were the only two flags up.

My uncle went to Buff. Bill yesterday.  He said the ice was fine on Bartletts.  A few guys out.  But he said he hardly marked a fish!  He didn't think anyone else was either because everyone kept moving around.  He just left an hour ago to try a different spot today.  I can't believe the ice is good and I bet this is the last weekend unless it gets cold.  Is it supposed to get cold anytime soon?

Ice is good everywhere! 10 inches plus every place I've been, few new pressure ridges.

It was a good 12" thick on the north fork side by spring creek yesterday and the lake trout were hitting like crazy in 60 feet of water.  Had one on that peeled line and felt like a good solid fish, then spit the hook  :-\

There was an 18# Laker released last weekend!
The ice is good but Good on Buffalo Bill is never totally safe. The pressure ridges are treacherous and there are some springs on the West end that have opened up. A friend fell through in a 4' hole where the ice was a foot thick just a few feet away!
