Tip-up question?
« on: Jan 14, 2010, 01:24 PM »
I have recently bought some jack traps. They do work great. I am having a little problem with a few of them. When I pull on the line the reel doesn't move very easily. I can make it but it is very hard to turn it. There is definitely to much resistance for it to set of the flag. Once I pull it myself it will go. Any help is appreciated. Thanks-

Maybe remove the reel and re-lube?  Also, the screw holding the reel to the bushing may be too tight.

I will try that thanks. when I try to force the reel to spin grease comes out next to the screw head. It must be too tight.

exactly right... gotta check them a lot and do some preventive maint. on them to make sure the reels are lubed and not too tight.  Most don't do that.  no sense in going out there and going through all of that setting up when it is all wrong just to feed the fish
