As far as what kind of salmon it is, it's a broodstock. There are a bunch of places that breed them, then release the young ones into rivers they'll be able to breed in. All the dams and such that have been built over the years put a serious hurt on their breeding, so they need a little help now. When the ones they've been keeping to make the babies get past their breeding prime, they toss them into lakes and ponds they'll most likely survive in. If you look at the bottom of the tail, you'll notice that it's not the same shape as the top, that's from the concrete 'rivers' they live in at the hatchery. They're a pretty decent fight, huh?
