Northern B.C lakes questions.....
« on: Jan 11, 2010, 06:39 PM »
;D Just curious is anyone here has fished St.Mary's, Buckhorn or Francis lakes in Prince George. Team T Bar and I are attempting a trip to all three tomorrow morning and I was curious if anyone has had success at any of the aforementioned. I know people fish there but am curious as to if anyone has pulled anything noteworthy out of any????. :-\.

you can skip buckhorn since there are no fish in there but there is small fish in francis and st mary's if that is the area you are going i would just go straight to st mary's and i would stick pretty close to the shore or in shady areas because its warm and slush and there is a ton of wait on the ice

I have fished all three lakes a couple times in the winter and you'll have luck catching pike minnows and the odd trout. I would go a little further down the road if you want trout. Its to bad Opacho is closed for the winter, but the little lake before it seems to produce nice panfrys. Ispah and grizzly are decent to fish but again check the regs. I haven't fished out there much in the last few years.

The road up to Grizzly is EVIL at the moment or that would have been my next choice :'(. We will take a stab @ St.Marys, then Francis and who knows.......Perhaps we will get something other than very wet!

Fished st Mary's in the summer. Caught about 6 trout or so between the 3 of us we fished to the left of the campsight right between the points.

Are there seriously fish in Ispah? I went there in the summer and the only sign of fish in that lake was 1 stupid squaw fish in the shallow. Nothing. What you catch in it?
There's always a bigger fish... and I'm going to get it!

there are some decent rainbows in ispah you have to fish the far end. The fish gorge on the shrimp and leeches so they usually have full bellies. But any of the lakes right now you might want to bring your belly boat cause its gonna be wet!!!

I fished st. marys a couple of weeks ago, caught lots of squawfish, nothing else though. I don't think that there's many trout left in those lakes out that way.

NO slush @ all just about 2 cms of water on some of the ice. Ice was about 4-6 inches in all of the holes we fished in. We tried to stay to the left of the campsite as it is more shaded and there IS open water in many areas. Road was muddy as hell and very icy on the trip in ,but nothing 4wd wouldn't fix ;). Someones taken a sled into the lake so there is a good trail to the lake........

Any of you fish Pitoney Lake? Was thinking of making a trip out there but not sure how the road out there is during the winter, though right now it shouldn't be a problem, and how the fishing is.

a buddy of mine always goes to pitony during the open water season and likes it. Theres rainbows, whitefish and ling in the lake. Seen his picks of some nice sized ling in there.

To get to pitoney lake, keep going past st maries, past the first willow bridge, stay on the buckhorn till you get to ispah lake cross the willow there and its your next lake to the left. Thats as good directions as I can give without driving there. ;)

I read that there are good ling in there and Lakers but not fully sure. I was thinking of heading out there and camping for a few days to get a good read on it.

I've fished pitoney a few times in the open water season, have caught some smaller lakers, and rainbow mainly. tried to get out there this year but the bridge was washed out, they were rebuilding it in the fall, when I was out that way.  Never tried for ling there though, didn't know that they were in there. They were soing some logging realy close to the lake in the summer, there was still lots of logs to be hauled out the last time I was in there, late oct early nov. so the roas may be plowed. I was gonna go out that way and chek the roads this weekend I will let you know what I find.
