I bought a new Strikemaster 9" three-blade auger a few years ago and from day-one it never seemed quite right. It always seemed to just spin and spin even with new blades and trying to shim those blades. I was never really happy with it.
I finally called Strikemaster and got a new 8" drill-unit (two blades) sent out and used it for the first-time yesterday.
What a difference! It's effortless now..I should have called earlier.
