Mousees, wax worms or spikes
« on: Dec 18, 2009, 10:56 AM »
Don't factor in what they might turn into if you don't take care of them.   ;D

Which of these three do you prefer for Perch?

Which of these three do you prefer for Walleye?  (If at all)

I use spike for most panfish, they work quite well. Never tried for eyes but lost one at the hole last year on spikes

I like minnows for both walleye and perch. Mousies for perch and especially crappie

I get the preference of minnows, but where I live it's not always practical.  I like the flexibility of ordering one of the three and getting them in the mail!

I would say that there is no one bait most of us use, when one goes cold I switch if the color has been good.

If you run multiple baits on a treble or sigle hook spikes are a good bait that stay on after multiple hits.

Waxies are callis and gills favorite.

But minnows have caught more perch than grubs combined.

Another good perch bait is oak leaf grubs if you can find them in a store or catch em.

Mousees for perch.  Minnows for walleyes.
Waxies are too soft.

i like waxies for pan fish they just suck cuz you usually only get one fish out of em. a lot of times when jiggin a rapala ill put a waxie on one point of the treble and spikes on the other 2 this has worked good for perch, bass and wallys

When I'm in prchsly'ng mode I jig with a hali with a 2nd longer dropper tied on. I put mousies on both hooks, then a minnow on top of the mousie that's on the hali hook. If my minnow gets stripped my Hali isn't sitting there baitless. The mousie is definitely my panfish bait of choice.
The angle of the dangle is directly proportionate to the heat of the beat.

mousies but minnows are preferred.Once in awhile the mousie outperforms the minnow so I always carry both.

Wax worms for pan fish.  Wax worms are the only grub I buy for ice fishing.  I use minnows on my tip-ups.  I have had the best luck with wax worms.  I've never had a problem with wax worms being to soft.
All I need is ice and the fish will come.

When hooking Mousies I just catch them throught the "head" with a sharp hook and either a micro barb or no barb. Most of the time I get many fish per mousie.

I use spikes mostly because they are easy to find and after the first fish I put an eye on one of my poles.

i usually either thread 1or 2 of them on the hook or i just hook them through the body most of the time mine usually end up frozen within the first hour of fishing which makes them easy to put on the hook and i dont think the fish care that they were frozen
