Scratcher Ice Boat- Late and Early Ice Machine!
« on: Dec 16, 2009, 02:10 PM »

Mud N Fun- I expect to see one of these by late ice... I'll help you "test" it!

Found this online.. Not mine
Quote
is a 14 foot flat bottom boat on skies powered by a 6 1/2 horse engine that runs a 2 foot spiked wheel that pushes the boat across the ice.  It travels approx. 25 MPH now but you can gear it easily to go faster or slower.   I use it on the Mississippi backwaters on the frozen sloughs and lakes.  It's great when you need to travel a long distance on early or late ice or any ice for that matter.  It can haul 3-4 adults and gear easily

The power auger can be used as auxilary thrust! Jut lay it sideways at an angle after you break threw.

MUD, If you are thinking of building something like that, I would suggest not making the boat so far off of the ice. Extra footprint to spread the weight evenly. Also with the boat lowered down I think it would come out of the water easier if it did go in. If you do build one, put a pop up shanty on top and some holes with tubes in the bottom and you would be good to go anytime.
