Auger Blades
« on: Dec 15, 2009, 08:09 PM »
My auger blades were dulling a bit at the end of last season.  Does anyone know of a place in the Rochester area that will sharpen them up, and what they charge for that?

I also an old extra set of blades.  I heard that there are some type of "auger blade exchange programs" where you sent your old ones in and they send back someone else's old ones that they have sharpened.  Has anyone tried this?  Can they recommend any places?

Chompin' at the bit.  Can't wait to get out there!

Strike Master does it  . The prices are on thier website . I have the Moira 6 inch Hand crank auger.. It is cheaper for me to go to Gander Mountain and get new ones ... I wish they had some sort of auger " jig " like that do for sharpening chainsaw blades so you can do it yourself....

Last year I had great luck with just puting the blades in a vice and lightly running over them with my dremmel tool and a fine honing bit. just used a bit of oil and really took my time, they actually cut better than new blades after that!

Thanks for the info guys.  I appreciate it!

I'll have to compare the price of getting them sharpened versus just buying a new set to see what make more sense.

I had an HT Polar last year, and my broadhead/knife hand sharpener did the trick. I now have a lazer, so idk if i can still get off that easy
