My Strikemaster Lazer hand auger does the same thing.  Not sure what to blame it on, but I just fight it down that last little bit and enjoy the rest of the day.

What I have found is that the blades cut just through the ice but you are putting to much down pressure on the auger. Try lifting it just a little and let the rpms come up then let it down slow . It will go right through. the same for the hand auger to much down pressure. Let up a little. Hope this helps and good luck out there. Stay safe.

I apply very little if any additional down pressure.  The weight of the hand auger is enough to drill itself.  The weight of the motor auger is enought to drill itself.  Applying too much extra pressure when the auger breaks through makes the whole blade cut too much and hangs up on the ice.  You want it to open a hole, not just the blades break through.

Do not lay it down with the spark-plug "down". ;)

Your auger could also not be bringing enough of the shredded ice up out of the hole. Try lifting the auger out of the hole about half of the distance you have drilled when it starts to stick. This should only be a problem when your drilling through thick ice.

As said before, don't apply down pressure. Even with hand augers, if they have good blades, don't need much more than your hand on top.
Also said, crank up the rpms. If you're already givin' her all she's got, the engine might be running sluggish. If it sat long with fuel in it the fuel might be stale. Also, don't use ethanol as part of your mix. Kinda a no brainer- but check your choke and make sure it's on "no choke". Check your spark plug- just do your regular maintenance on the engine.

When it hangs up at the bottom of the hole, lift up to let the RPM's get up again, then push down as hard as you can. See if that helps.

What type of blades are on it?

Might not be running on full RPM, may need a tune-up.

It takes a while to figure out how to clear the bottom with a chipper blade without hanging.

You asked him 7 minutes after he posted when he said it would take an hour. Give the guy a chance to try it first!!! You got ants in your pants or what?!?!  ::)

If you have to push down on your auger you need new blades. I have had the same blades for 3 years now and they are as sharp as the day I got them. When you are done put the cover back on.

I keep the auger running a minute after I drilled my last hole and shut the gas cap vent then shut it off and lay it down plug up.
