do you need to put a filter on the propane line that is black for a big buddy to run a 20 lb. tank?

It is great insurance. I have heard two things:
Bulk propane is dirty,
Black propane hoses and deteriorate can clog up the valves in your heater.

Yes... use a filter.... I have heard both stories as well..... but I would lean MUCH more towards the hose breaking down and contaminating the heater... because with all of the LP furnaces and boilers and such out there.... and NONE of them have filters on them that use bulk LP... and the regulators would plug up for sure if it was the LP... so I would lean towards the hose being the culprit. I believe there is a green hose that Mr Heater sells that does not need a filter, however... maybe e-mail them and check it out...

Would a good sized large Ace Hardware store have one of these filters?   I had a pressure regulator get messed up once, a spiderweb plugged it up!
I "are" much more skeptical of cobwebs in all things I invent or use in the extreme out doors ( ...and increasingly what is between my ears included!).

The Ace in the town where I live does not carry them, but most of the larger stores do.
