Personally I like it slow pan fried. Man ....I love squirrel. I used to spend the entire season in the woods with my Mark I target pistol.

Dredge the squirrel pieces in seasoned flour...egg wash.....seasoned flour again. Brown, reduce heat, partially cover and slow fry. I like the electric skillet for this. You can control the temps easily.

A little salt and pepper....enjoy!

I haven't hunted much in the last 5 years or so. My Bride would get very upset with me when I picked off 3-4 squirrels at our bird feeders and put them in the frying pan.

We boil them up, peel the meat off the bone and throw it the spaghetti sauce. Works well with Rabbit too!

I've only made them broiled and basted. Haven't hunted them for years though. Just go for bigger stuff like deer or elk nowadays.

How about pressure cooked 20 minutes, peel off the meat, then add it to a regular stew mix, potatoes, carrots, clerey, onion, garlic, etc, or just add a bag of goulash mix.

I've always enjoyed Squirrel. It just seems like I don't take time to hunt them anymore. Maybe when Deer season ends I'll bust out my little .32 cal muzzleloader and have a go at them. I'm startin' to get a hankerin' for a pot pie ;D. The Mrs. and I always keep it simple...about 3-4 Squirrels cleaned, parboiled and deboned. A ready made piecrust, a bag of mixed frozen vegetables and a jar of ready made gravy (chicken, turkey, beef) your preference. Put it together and pop it in the oven and bake as you would any other meat pie...MMMM... ;D WK
Give your son a fish, and he will eat for a day.....teach your son to fish and eventually he'll end up kicking your @ss every time you fish together!!!

Squirrel is fantastic

I brown the pieces in a hot skillet then cook them in cream of mushroom soup. Tastes great!

Squirrel Pot Pie does sound good!

The Best!

Wife made some 2 nights ago....
This is for a pretty good sized pie, if you have 'normal' pie pans, just use 1 squirrel. ;D

Make your favorite pie crust~
Wife's is:
1 part flour
1/2 part shortening
1 tbsp. salt
add water until flaky crust consistency is achieved.

Par-boil 2 squirrels & peel meat from bones.

Add:
squirrel meat
1 can cream of mushroom soup (I like the kind with garlic added)
1/2 can of cheese soup (near the cream of mushroom)
1/2 bag of frozen peas
1/2 bag frozen corn
chunked potato & onion if desired
garlic & salt/pepper to taste

bake @ 350 for 1.5 hours

MMMMMMM.
My favorite wild game recipe.
I might even have a pic of this, I'll dig around. ;)

If you ever get hit with a bucket of fish, be sure to close your eyes. ;)

25 years ago during my college years squirrel was pretty much a staple for me. The best was when my room mate and I would cook up a batch of stew and have a couple girls over for supper. They thought it was great until we told them it wasn't chicken. ;D

Probably only kill 'em in self defense, they're not like our Canadian squirrels  ;)...

Haven't hunted them for quite a while, this was my last time out for them. I even got a (and only) black squirrel.

Mark II, Target model, 6-7/8" barrel with adjustable sights. Your set up looks pretty nice. They are super accurate, economical, and just plain fun!

Tree Rat in the crock pot!!! I used to live on these things back when I was a young pup. Clean 'em good, soak 'em in salt water overnight, and toss 'em in the crock pot with some 'tatos, onions, carrots, and good seasoning. You can dump some canned gravy or your favorite soup over them, too. Cook on low about 6-8 hrs. Enjoy!

That's an easy one RG !

Don't tell her.   Just call her at work and tell her that you fixed a nice hearty stew for supper.
After a couple of days, ask her how she liked the squirrel.

Works every time.

Thanks for the recipes guys. Hadn't gotten around to shooting any last year but I had found it tasty to roll the meat in flour, pan fry,  and remove meat from bone. Added to some already-fried potatoes and it was great. I'm new to the skinning part, which proves difficult.
But I do find it amusing to tell people that squirrel is good.
