I've been trapping in this little swamp pond and have been getting crawfish with my shinners. has anyone use them as bait in the winter. do you think they will work for anything other than bass like pike? they are not small bout 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 inches long. what do you all think?

I'm thinking a pot of boiling water and a little melted butter,,,ummmm  crayfish!!!! :woot:

If they were softshell (spring/early summer) then you got good bait.

perch love the smaller ones. i never used them ice fishing as they are hard to come by in the winter.

if you're getting them 4 1/2", i'd go with the pot of boiling water with a little old bay seasoning, and some melted butter...
grandpa told me-"never wrestle with a pig. you both get muddy and the pig likes it".

I fish with them for SMB in the summer. But SMB are a tough fish to get as the winter wears on. Mud bugs just might be the key.

I haven't heard of anyone using them for pike. Some guys like to chum their pike holes so they might help attract fish if you crush them up and throw them down the hole. I would try using the tail as a teaser on a jig for bass. I haven't tried it, but it will probably work.
