as in a Center Pin?  I saw a guy online in some video fishing a pin but that was the only time.
Expect the worst and hope for the best

Walk softly and carry a big stick(to help get on top the ice when you fall through)

Used to ice fish the mouth of the Ganny in Port Hope using float gear.
Would even use the long rods. Pretty funny standing 10 to 15 feet away from the hole fighting a steelie.   ;D
I spent many a day pinning in January and February and the only time I ever had issues with my pin was if it got dunked (by me slipping in the river or dropping my outfit) they don't spin so good once that water freezes.
If you don't submerge them they work fine in the cold.

Same here, Put it on a 30 inch rod and just let it dead stick in the shack. Works great for crappies.

Well to be technical, it's actually a fly reel.  3/4 wt large arbor.  Okuma vashon.  retail $120.00

Smaller reel compared to larger Center Pin reels.  It's only 2 3/4 inch diameter spool compared to your 4 1/2 inch diameter for Center Pins.  Wider than your standard Center Pin reels.  I think most Center Pins are only about shy of an inch.  I think the average Fly reels are about 1 1/2 inch.

When I fish outside and get line freeze on the spools.  I have to manually pull line off anyway.  A larger arbor spool like a Fly reel will be easier to pull frozen line off.
