Braided line on jigging rods?
« on: Nov 13, 2009, 10:00 AM »
Has anyone tried braided line on their jigging rods for ice-fishing?  I would love the added sensitivity especially when fishing deep but am concerned with it potentially freezing and was wondering if that is an issue?  Are some kinds of braid better that others for sub freezing temps?

Going to be respooling my jigging rods soon and will probably try at least one with braid to experiment and for those days its above freezing.

I think the braided like, power pro for example, would absorb water and freeze up pretty good.

John, as long as you use the braids made for ice fishing you'll be fine. I use Power Pro Ice and like it, especially on my Arctic Warrior setups...

I put some on one of my jigging rods only because I didn't have anything else at the time. Worked out fine for me.

I am using braided on my jiggin rods with a mono or flouro leader about 2 feet long this season.  Uniknot em together or use a swivel if spoonin to prevent line twist.. Much better ifyer jiggin deep-less stretch. More sensitive , I think also, easier to feel the bite.

I have never been a huge fan, the braid does not seem the shed the water as well.
