My Garbage Man is Lucky.
« on: Nov 11, 2009, 07:28 PM »
Many of you may have met Two Fish Tommy at the ice show last year. He is a life long friend of mine, and also the local "sanitation engineer". In this last week at work he has found a fully functional Zercom flasher and a Marcum LX-i in the trash. The LX-i looks to be nearly new, and the Zercom is already set up for ice fishing. He already has an LX-3, but the Zercom will make a nice spare.

What a snot! What do you need to do to get luck like that? :o

What lucky finds or freebies have you guys run across?

None... I can only dream of finding a working flasher in the garbage.

Pulled up to a lakeside baitshop/bar one morning at 6am...they werent open yet..I stepped out of the truck to look at the hours on the door to see when they opened.  I walked back to truck and looked down in the snow and found a hundred dollar bill laying there....a drunk must of dropped it heading home the night before.  Beer, gas, bait and a handful of new jigs...SWEET.

Hey BBK, I think that tackle box was mine!  ;D
I'm the guy that looses stuff. Left a bucket with a bunch of salt water plugs and rigs in the parking lot at the DEP docks once. got to the end of the street and turned back. Yup they were gone. :(

A friend of mine lived by a grocery store when we were teenagers and we would walk thier fence line along his yard and always find beer money blown against the fence. As far as in the trash I always seem to find old steel fishing rods or broken rods I stripped for parts. The only tackle box I ever found was left intentionaly at a fishing spot because of the rancid worm smell in it, that would of been a good candid camera gag because I think I puked in my mouth a little when I opened it

It's great that TFT found these units but very disturbing that they were found in the trash. I guess the old saying, one man's garbage is another man's gold, applies here ;D

Hard to say why this stuff ended up where it did....heck crackheads would've atleast marvel over these units for a minute or two and then try to cash in at the local pawn shop.

When i was working in construction testing i was stuck on a road project that just happened to be garbage day. At one spot i found a brand new propane stove w/ new tanks and a bunch of other camping stuff. Im pretty lucky at getting riding lawn mowers (3 so far) and lawn mowers (too many) weed whackers, chain saws etc. No cool electronics though, but good find for your friend!

My bro in law found my current auger in a dumpster while working at the same disposal company as Two Fish. The recoil was broken, big surprise for a 2 horse Tecumseh engine! ::) I fixed the recoil and it started right up. I have been drilling holes with it ever since. 8)

There is no shame in dumpster diving.

I came home after working the night shift, and the dumpster at my apartment complex was full of stuff.

Someone caught their significant other cheating and threw out all his stuff.

This was before I was into ice fishing, but there was a brand new Jiffy Auger.  (the gas tank never had gas in it.)
most of the neighbors carted off the guys stuff.  Fishing stuff, hunting stuff, weight set, clothes.

It was all gone by the end of the day.

My boss used to do roll off dumpsters quite a bit. The best dumpsters to dig into were divorce loads. :-\

A moving neighbor gave me 5 plastic ht tipups that I don't think ever saw the water and a jig rod a few months ago. My girlfriends father HAD a bunch of oldschool ice fishing equipment and he keeps finding more each time I go over there. He has no desire to ever use the stuff and just wants it out of the basement. I'll be happy to help him out. I've made out with a total of ten tipup's, a jig rod, an old 8" Mora, a couple skimmers, and a baitbucket. He says he's going to give me a  pair of ski's for the bottom of my jetsled. I have never or ever will ask for the stuff but he makes me take it to put it to use.

Oh you know it. The Mora already got passed down to an ice newbie that said he wants me to show him the ropes. I told him we'll start with this...This kid was totally pumped to have his own auger so i'm hoping I've created another addict. My boys are getting the tipup's (5and8). Of course, they are already addicts.
