« on: Oct 30, 2009, 09:03 AM »
I figured i would see what body of water you guys are most interested in fishing this winter and why. I'll start by giving my top three...

1. A couple of ponds around Des Moines which i havent ice fished before
2. West Okoboji: Gotta love sight fishing at it's finest!
3. Clear Lake: I sure hope the yellows go on a tear this winter. Last year was a dissapointment...

Lets hear um fellas!

i'm chasing records this year... need to beat a 15 1/8" perch(this one should have been on my wall, not my plate...but i was 15), 4 lb 2oz. crappie (is on my wall, and i did catch it 20 years ago...when i was 15), and an 11 1/4" gill (caught it last year but it just wasn't pretty enough for the wall- no big hump and really dark, that said probably 75% of my ice fishing this year will br done in small private farm ponds where i have caught these in the past.
but for numbers and food....
1) IGL's- spirit's perch and boji's gills
2) elm- got into a lot of really nice perch late ice last year.
3) brushy- crappie...there should be a really nice year class of 12" fish this year (think of all the 9-10"ers 2 years ago, and the ones that were pushing 11" last year)

I sure hope 12 mile has big blugills again. I used to fish there in the 90s and it was a great lake then. I know they drained it and I hope it gets great again.

My ice fishing is all IGL.
Every plastics manufacturer claims plastics outfish livebait. So now I use livebait just for the increased challenge.

Lots of 10" gills last season, I know we didn't catch them all. :)
