MyFishFinder.com Just like iceshanty but warmer
Thanks JamesMy last one was used for something it was not intended for ( I wont go into it), I use it mostly for the Cusk traps.Just may have to have one built so it wont for apart. 2 pcs. pipe and a leaf spring
i like the newer jiffy chisels, they do work really well. i dont own one but finless bought one last year and it does blast right threw the ice, the one i have is an antique lol but it does the job for cusk lines and if theres under 6 inches of ice it does ok also if you dont want to haul an auger out
leaf springs work great, and the price is right if you can get one from a mechanic or on the sidw of the road. On mine, I welded to a solid shaft 10-20"long [ I can't remember exactly] that fit tight inside the tubing I was using, then welded the tubing over the shaft for a cleaner finish. I filled the pipe with Great Stuff to slow down the rust; the last thing I did was to grind the cutting edge to a fork[like a fishes tail] with the outsides significantly thicker to see if it would cut better, and, boy, does it!!!! good luck!
I have a "Winni" chisel bought over 40 years ago at Martel's,the one with the curved blade. Do they sill sell these chisels around Winni THE BEST CHISEL EVER MADE!!
Yeah, I believe they were called the Laconia Ice Chisel and are awesome chisels but extremely hard to find. If you own one, keep it and make sure you have a rope tied to it and to your wrist. Otherwise buy a Jiffy 2 piece chisel.JIGGIN.
Ya know guys I have access to very sharp blades used to cut paper. They are roughly 3/8" thick x4" tall and have a tempered edge. But the problem is they are 30+" long. Not sure what will cut them into smaller pieces to mount on the end of a pipe. Maybe a power hack saw??
Sawzall with a metal cutting blade will do the job. Band saw
If they are hardened or tempereed, you'll need a torch or, better yet, a plasma cutter.
