will anyone try to get over the same spots they were catching gills thru the ice, in their boat? i never tried to get out this soon after iceout, but my little jon-boat is always ready! :P

Yep it works....can be real good.  Don't know where you get your gills from, but if it is near some weeds on a shallow flat or along a drop those weeds will start to grow and produce oxygen again if they are now getting sun light.  The gills will move in there, but it is not right away.  It will take some time.  I would say if you have an area where you caught them in or near the weeds at first ice, there will be gills there again soon after ice out.  Just remember to fish with small ice jigs, light line and also smaller bobbers if you are casting to them vs. vertical jigging.

Oh yes..... and vice versa.......... As soon as you can get a boat in.... mine is in there...... It may be a little tougher to present your jig, but fishing is a good thing.......

I broke ice with my little pelican on sunday,and had a good time watching that tiny bobber go down.   ;)

No, but I could have got away with it during the first part of the day when the wind was down and the boat wouldn't move in the ice unless I was on the trolling motor.  I was certainly thinking about it, but didn't have either one with me.
