Been hearing of poeple going through the ice everywhere, is there any left that is definitly safe to fish Im a big guy and dont want to go through, any lakes that you guys are fishing with no problems?

Does anyone think safe ice will return to lower Michigan this year ? I was thinking with some cold temps, just maybe. But now they're calling for snow mid-week.

i dont know how far down you are but there is some ice in allegan county.

Oakland county has plenty of safe ice.

Myself and a friend were out on Crystal Lake (AKA Skunk Lake) in Montcalm County walleye fishing on Saturday evening. I encountered about 12" of ice yet on there. If the weather doesn't get too crazy, there should be fishable ice on there into April! In fact Saturday night a quad without it's headlight on approached us at about 2000 hrs. It was the DNR. He checked us for the number of lines in the water. Seemed like a real decent guy. When he left we were both amazed that he didn't want to check our licenses. It wasn't until the next day that I realized that it was the free fishing weekend. It was a good thing since my friend had left his to home

I fished in Washtenaw and Livingston counties over the weekend All the lakes still had at least 8" of ice. I was driving the 4 wheeler on Portage lake. We had a small fishing derby for the kids at church Saturday. No problems at all.

Theres a lot of safe ice all around here in lower michigan. Been to a few out around grand rapids and a bunch over in oakland county

Fished Gull Lake today 6" black ice....shore ice 1 to 3 inch......was poping on one hit. Got into some perch though..

...made ice all day today

We still have good ice in Cadillac. I drilled through 18" Sunday. Was fishing on Mitchell side not Lk Cadillac side. Good crappie and a few Walleyes. Lk Missaukee still has good ice also.

watch for soft spots. My home lake had open spots 4 to 8 foot wide a couple of days ago. Make sure to bring a spud with you. My buddy put one leg through the ice up to his nuts. be carefull out there fellas!!!

Tons of ice here in the traverse city area. Most lakes have over 10 inches still. I saw a couple trucks on fife today. I went out to check the ice and theres like 16 inches out there.

Do use caution but there is lots of safe ice in Jackson county. Drove quad out on Vineyard and drove quad out on North lake in Washtenaw county.

Should be good ice all over up this way. You still want to use good judgement before driving cars and trucks on the ice but a lot of ice for walking and driving sleds and quads out there.

fished at small lake in chelsea today..... shore ice very thin, but had a good 9" of solid ice once out. rain and fog made conditions pretty miserable. be careful...... take a bud and a spud

In southerm MI

Lets face it....if you are a amateur and you don't know how to judge ice conditions, or own a spud .......I would recommend you stay home.

If however, you do own a spud and you respect the ice, by all means go fishing
