Mid winter warm up and trout.
« on: Feb 11, 2009, 09:49 PM »
Well the conditions are prim here in northern Wi the rivers are rolling like mad and that means one thing for me. Im heading out this friday off of a few river mouths seting up shallow might have to drill 20 holes to find the edge of the dirty water and see if I can put the smack down on a few bows, browns or cohos. Im in a bit of a toss up to run with some spawn on a gumball or just plain hook jig and small minnows or both? I'll maybe bring a bag of 3" gulp minnows to try. Whats your thaught or what would you go to first?

Sounds like you pretty well have everything covered.  I would also bring along some big nightcrawlers for fishing right on the bottom behind boulders in the current and maybe some big chub minnows to make some small filets to put behind a spoon.  However, you have to change the small filets about every 20 minutes because they loose their scent quickly.

Caught this one on 3" Gulp while jigging.  First year I tried this stuff and I swear by it.

Gulp works great also. Nice catch.
