Would you rather catch a 30" walleye or a 40" pike through the ice???

40" pike for sure. Why? Because I am a pike man, and love catching those pike, walleyes are fun too but dont do nearly as much for me.

I would take the eye... the first eye I catch over 12 Lbs is going on the wall.

Walleye!!!!!!! Have caught plenty of pike, not many walleye. But the ones I have caught were AWESOME.......

walleye. i catch alot of pike, and when i target walleye i often catch only perch and somtimes crappie. i think walleye are a more difficult fish to learn.

eyes are harder to catch around here, so it would have to be that. plus eyes taste better

I would have to go with the 40' pike. Cause not only do you get an adrenaline rush when you feel the fight of the big pike but when you pull that sucker out of that hole it makes the whole day seem worth while

I'll take the Walleye. I have a 40" Pike on the wall and my wife has a 28" Walleye on it. I need to catch a bigger Walleye to keep her from giving me grief about it.

40 inch pike for me vs 30 inch walleye. I have caught way more 30 inch eyes than 40 inch pike.There is many 30 inch pike but the 40 inch pike are harder to find where we fish. Fishing in the spring we have caught afew 40 inch pike but they are in rough shape from the winter.

Wow now this is an awesome topic and great debate!

Im really not sure what I would rather catch but know I would be amazed and shocked to get a fish or either species that big through the ice! Not sure if my ice rods could handle a fish that big. But I think I would have to say 30" Walleye would maybe be my 1st choice...and it would definitly be getting mounted on the wall! That is way to nice of a fish to eat..and they dont taste nearly as good when there that big. Theres lots of eater size ones out there to the guys that said they would eat it....just toss it back and keep some smaller ones.

30 inch eye,I have caught 3 pike over 40 inches but never a 30inch 10lb plus eye,I have caught several in the 29 inch plus,but none weight more than 9lbs 12 oz.All eyes where caught in open water L Erie,but the big pike all where ice fish.

cuz ive already iced a 44 " and 38" pike both on 6lb jigging rodz ... i want a nice walleye already lol ive only iced 8 walleye in my years lol

I would love to catch either one....I sure see a lot of posts saying that walleye tastes better but I highly disagree, pike is fantastic to eat...wayyy better than walleye, walleye is very good but give me pike over walley any day. I also agree with sperrin, if you don't plan to put it on the wall take a photo and throw it back. The smaller fish, walleye or pike taste the best.

eye, no doubt Ive caught 3 fish over 27'' in the past three years. Pike IMO are more common in the 40 inch range.
