Marcum compass
« on: Jan 30, 2009, 11:31 AM »
I got a Marcum compass a few weeks ago and
got to use it today for my camera.
I have a cabelas camera that works great
but It took me 10 min to get on my bait with my tripod
I used the compass and it Is the greatest thing in the world
I was able to get on in seconds. I can say do not waist time or money
on any other device for your camera. It was only about 14.00
I wish I had had this thing all along used a 8 in hole
dont know how it would work on a 10 in hole will have to messure
it. If you are having problems with your camera finding the bait
get this compass

Yes, they are slick.  It works even better if you use your flasher to line up your bait and camera in the water column, then just give it a turn until you see the jig.  They are a slick device, they should make an insulated version, that would be really slick!

I took a 5 gal bucket lid to my chop saw and cut a slice the radius of the lid just wide enough for the cable to slide in snugly. works great.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Right, why pay 14bucks for a round disc! My fishing partner made one for his camera using a boat cleat etc. looks better than the marcum and cost em pennies. Hole covers make me laff as well, make em out of a sleeping bag mat for 7bucks ya git eight of em. But no , spend $10 a hole instead! Just plain lazy.

Anyone use this in their home-made contraption?

I've got nothing against hole covers, the foam used in the kind I have is different than anything i've seen in a sleeping mat.  And they match my tip-ups, and no I didn't pay 10 bucks each, when I got them, it was 10 bucks for 3.

in my area you would spend at least $10 buying the supplies to make one, so $14 is not that bad....$5 for a Bucket to cut the disc out of, and $2 for each piece hardware.

Yes ,on the cleat -I gave one like it to my fishing bud, for use on his homemade camera compass.
Didn`t mean to dis yer covers, they do match yer traps nicely! Was simply pointing out there was a cheaper alternative, especially with the unemployment rate where it is!

Junky , ya need to work on yer procurement skills. (scrounging 101) I find 5 gal buckets everywhere. Check behind restuarants. (ask of course)

we are talking about a plastic disc with a cut-out and a few ridges...I dont need to get 10 years out of it, as long as it does the job all is well.

Im not a super handy guy, it is not my thing, so to me it is a good deal
