big buck results and ice gator question
« on: Jan 19, 2009, 04:36 PM »
I know this is not related to the page but here goes anyway. I just received an email from the state and then talked to the president of the NH Skull and Antler Club who conveyed that my buck was third in the state this year !!! The other thing is I was wondering if anyone going to little Alaska was bringing a ice gator so we could see one up close?

I posted them with the help of knurren on hunting forum.com under the title of (finaly it was my turn) It weighed 230 lbs and scored only 128b&c it had eight points that weren't all that tall but it had over a 5" circumference all the way out to the end of both beams. The neck was HUUUGGEE . He is very tasty for the size.

Your bucks rack looks a lot like the one I shot this year... except yours has more mass and mine was only 188 pounds. Mine scored about 115 to 118 had a 21" spread. I did it three times and got a different score each time.  :D Mine is tasting pretty darn good too.  ;D I was surprised considering it was beginning of the rut when I shot it (2nd day of ML season).
Here's a pic of mine since we're sharing...

Nice buck guys.
Huntr,  did F&G give you the estimated age?  Color of the hide looks to be a young deer.  I'm wondering if it's 1 1/2 which I doubt or 2 1/2 yrs old?   Imagine the rack if you could have watched him for a year.  ;D  That deer looks to be 2 years from peak.  Nice Deer.
Congrats.

I know diet and genes have a lot to do with rack size, # of points.  A deer that size I'd expect a greater # of points.  Just wondering if it was pre or post peak.
and asking 1 1/2 seems silly now that I think of it.  But from the color of the coat, looks to be pre peak.

(Image removed from quote.)

I wish I could share mine.  Didn't get one this year.  Was in Vegas for a work related convention during the Rut. :%$#!:
I'm with you on the ML season.  All mine but one have come on the last 2 days of ML season.
Nice European Mount.  I wish I had done that to my last one.  I left him in the freezer too long for lack of funds, and only had the Antlers done.
And I question the antler mass above.  I've got a 7 pointer 176lbs, that had decent mass, and F&G at Wildlife Taxidermy estimated it to be 1 1/2 years old lookin at the teeth.  Most likely was 2 1/2 though.

Congrats guys.
