Lake Hopatcong Ice Fishing
« on: Jan 18, 2009, 07:50 AM »
Went out Yesterday on Lake Hopatcong.  The conditions were good, very cold, but the sun kept us warm.  Ice was 7" to 8" thick.  We started the morning out on the point from Dow's, in Front of the Jefferson House.  Had 6 Tip-ups and 2 Jig rods.  We were on the ledge where the water goes from 12 to 35 feet, no bites for about 4 hours.  People were catching Panfish in the shallows maybe 10-15 feet off the Land, using Jigs with wax worms, and shiner heads.  A guy about 50 feet away from us caught a Musky about 40" long and about 30lbs, It was fatter than Hell.  That was the only real action that I seen out there.  I ventured to Bertrand, and than to Lee's cove, and had no luck.  I was using Medium Shiners. The Knee Deep's Ice Fishing Tournament is next Sunday January 25th $25 for nonmembers.
