Ice is melting!!!
« on: Jan 16, 2009, 12:25 PM »
Buffalo Bill Reservoir is melting quick, I was really looking forward to a long ice fishing season this year, but it looks like it's going to be the shortest one I've ever had. I might be at Boysen the week of the tourney so hope to see some of you there. Take care and I hope you get colder weather than we are getting here. Tight lines Mooks

Where are you? In MA, we're having a cold snap like no other. It hasn't been above freezing in days.

Relatively thin ice with a bunch of snow on it "can" thin quickly, even in very cold weather on some waters. Ice gets pushed down, melts and is insulated from the weather, use your head, stay safe, it's still fairly early

Don't laugh guys this will probably head east in about a week. I think I saw something about being 20 degrees above normal in about a week here in the midwest.
I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.

Here in northern Indiana too. Last I checked the temp was -13 but the temp is rising tonight for some reason!

What's weird is I have more water under the snow on one of my ponds than I did yesterday! I guess the snow s pushing the ice down and water is coming up?

However if your ice is thick enough it's going to take more than above average temps to melt it too fast.

Last week it was -50* in Fairbanks, Alaska and today it got up to 54*.  It's supposed to drop back to the negatives by Monday or Tuesday.  These changes in temperature are just crazy.

Liar another PETA peson trying to influence us to stop fishing. GLOBAL WARMING DOES NOT EXIST ALL A HYPE BY GORE.

Look outside cold enough for you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you meant to be funny you could at least include a smiley face or something. Typically calling someone a liar and accusing them of being a PETA person is usually grounds for an altercation. Is this really necessary?

I've been doing it for 25 years the last ten only fish. I'm swamped and burned out but just keep on going.  :(

Here's a pic of her her mounted.  I added the typical white belly, which as you can see the original fish did not have. I regret it now and I will go back some time and scale tip her with yellow/orange/ gold all the way down with some white in between the scales. The larger perch in my pond once they get to about 13 inches do not have white bellies whatsoever. Not sure why.

Here's a largemouth icefishing scene I did. I love ice fishing scenes.

And a male and female brook I did for a trout hatchery.

Where are you located?
