if money is not an issue, you should check out either an eskimo, or otter, they both have some very nice gear. extremely durable canvass, they both offer an insulated model, and claim you can heat with a candle or body heat.. my first choice would be an otter, but i live in michigan and am broke!!! so ill use my save big money @ menards shanty!!! it is ok but i would rather have a coool name brand one.. good luck, and theres alot out there so do your research..

I haven't tried many but I love my scout, just bought the guide so my wife could go with me. The scout seems to have plenty of room for me.

If i had to buy another shanty my first pick would be either an Eastman pop up, or a quickfish.  FIshed in fishhead's quick fish over the weekend and the thing is SAWEEET!!!!  Easy to set up and pack up.  Light as an arrow, can carry it out in a bag over your shoulder.  Not to mention all KINDSA room

I just bought a brand new Primos pop up blind RC. Same exact design, just as much room, all i need is two ice anchors and i think it'll work for a shanty.  Im gonna try it out saturday possibly.

I just picked up the frabill commando around xmas time.  The seat is really nice, plenty of room.  I've had my lantern and vex in there and did not feel crowded.  Only complaint is its pretty heavy for a one man.  62lbs i think.  Take the seat off and u lose quite a bit of weight.  I loved it when there was only a couple inches of snow, but when i went out this past weekend it was one heck of a workout towing it around trying to find the fish.

I own a scout,my 2 buddies have a Frabill comando, and a stike zone. I like my scout alot its light, and if you set it up right you have decent amount of room. The Comando is nice very roomy for a 1 man, however it is a little heavier. The Stike Zone from Mernards is a good shack for the money. Its bigger than the scout but smaller than the comando. It doesn't come with a seat but if your somewhat handy you could make one. The canvas on the SZ is just as nice as the others. Hope this helps.

I talked to a guy on PM Lake last Saturday that had a Sticke Zone.  I noticed his windows were all cracked and broken.  He said they breack real easy when they get cold.  I've never had that problem with my minute man and clam.  Has anyone else had that problem?

I have had no problems with my scout. Make sure you buy the cover if you are going to pull it behind a machine. Frozen slush can ruin a fishing trip.
The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.

I agree. you are always going to have that friend that wants to go with you.Plus if you are married or have kids they may want to go with you. I would buy a 2 man first and if you ever have some extra money buy a one man for those times you know you are going by yourself. plus there not much more money. you can by a frabill trekker 2 for 319 at mcsports. gl

I have a Frabill "speed shack" 2 person set up.

It comfortably seats two people with plent of room.

Pros---VERY easy setup, and can be done easily by yourself.
          Roomy
          Light

Cons---Fabric is very loose on bottom and is secured by clips instead of being permanently mounted resulting in LOTS of cold drafts at foot level
Not very good in windy weather, as its very drafty.
Windows on on sides, so its hard to see tip ups if placed in front of shanty.
VERY hard to pull if alot of snow is on ice, acts like a bulldozer instead of a sled.
           Hard to secure gear.

Also have a Older Shappel shanty

Pros---Fabric is secure all around the bottom, so not as drafty.
Has ski's to ease pulling through snow
          EXTREMLY ROOMY
          VERY easy to secure gear

Cons---Wood flooring(Showing its age huh?!) and is VERY VERY heavy
Hole covers secured by wing nuts in fiber board NOT very sturdy.

I just picked up a Shappell DX3000 just a couple of weeks ago. By far the best and easiest to set up ofany shanty I've had. Very roomy and I take up a lot of room. I like that it has a full floor so all my stuff is still dry when I leave.

Slight draft near the zippers but a propane lantern really heats it up. The best part about it is, it already smells like fish!!!
