Ice fishing near Lethbridge
« on: Dec 28, 2015, 12:25 AM »
I started a topic in the general ice fishing section: "ice fishing vacation" http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=322437.0

Anyways, I thought I would post this here hoping more people would see it. After doing a bunch of research Lethbridge, Alberta seems like it would be a great place to visit and do some ice fishing. If anyone knows any info about this area it would be greatly appreciated!

You could count on some pike and other stuff, but S. Alberta wouldn't make my top ten ice fishing destinations.

This might be a more consistent option.

You can target whitefish at spray with flies. Chartreuse and neon green/yellow flies or micro jigs for grayling. You may get a brown trout at quarry as well.

Most use wire worms thru the ice for Whites.

At Spray you can use bait but make sure it is "SMELTS"  minnows, worms, maggots ect. are illegal and the F&W officers are always checking.
A white jig heavy to get down to 70-100FOW  with a smelt, or I like a Chubby Darter or Rapala Jig with a smelt.  Best for Laker at Spray is sunrise to about 11 then 3 or 4 till sunset.

Have fun but remember Smelts only

Your interpretation of the reg's for Spray is incorrect.

Bait is allowed. eg. worms, maggots, smelts, fish eggs etc
Bait fish is not. eg Minnows

There is a not a bait ban at Spray.

Thanks Everyone! We are going to get 5 day fishing licences. I talked with a guide from the area and the sporting good store in Canmore has been super helpful. We are really excited.

Your going to love the Banff - Canmore area. Scenery is second to none, Spray, Barrier, upper and lower Kananaskis lakes are all worth fishing. Quarry is more of a pond than lake, but very deep. Wedge pond is down by the Kananaskis lakes and also contains Arctic Grayling. Have fun, beautiful area to fish.
