Any safe ice in the Agawam area?
« on: Jan 07, 2015, 05:01 AM »
Hey all, I wanted to get out for a little bit today, but don't really feel like roaming too far right now. Anyone know if congamond or hampton ponds are safe yet?

The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad.

Fished congamond by the boat ramp yesterday. 4" at shore thinning to 3 toward the middle. Still open water in the main lake. Several guys fishing the north pond channel too. Slow fishing, handful of gills and one fat pickerel. Just be careful.

Just went up to Hampton Ponds and saw a guy cut a hole checking the ice. 50' off the ramp there was 5.5" of ice. I didn't see anyone fishing or any other steps out there, but based on the ice thickness, it looks good to go. I would be especially confident this weekend after the cold snap tonight.
I believe in catch and release! Every fish deserves a second chance.

thanks for the info folks! I ended up going to van horn in springfield, busting my butt and dropping my unsipped coffee the second I stepped on the ice. Drilled a hole, ice was only about 3 inches and I was already disgusted with myself, so I packed up, went home and pouted to the old lady, who was pretty unsympathetic.  And JSS, im down for sunday, drop me a pm and we can go from there.

What is in that place?  I have always wondered.... I have been to Venture Pond next to WNEC a long time ago.  Very small and at least 10 or so years ago it was loaded with nice size largemouth. If you are looking for something fun and small in springfield I used to have a blast on this little pond with the kids.
