Dear IceBalls and Family,

My FL-20 and I are extremely sorry for your loss. As soon as I told FL-20 what had happened and how your Vex was valiant to the end in the face of Hurricane Sandy, he went straight to the trickle charger and I cannot get him to unhook himself. Between his sobs, FL-20 said he had once met your Vex when they were first produced and assembled in Bloomington, MN. They had sat next to each other on a cart, while awaiting boxing. He said Vex was very excited to meet you and wanted to mark plenty of fish for you. Vex was a gamer.

IceBalls, Vex was a flasher with sound work ethics, strong electronics, and the ability to discern bottom hugging fish from the bottom. But you already know that. You may not know he had worked very hard on his target separation and according to FL-20, led his class and was voted "Most Likely To Mark A State Record".  I know this cannot alleviate the pain and grieving the loss of your Vex has brought to you and your family, but FL-20 and I hope this little story, the first days of your Vex, brings some peace and solace to you and your family during this most difficult time.

FL-20 is taking this pretty hard right now and has started asking for the Patron. It's going to be a long, long  night here IceBalls. Please excuse us now as I need to get two shot glasses and the Patron, and will most likely be up the rest of the night with FL-20. Hopefully he can get it together as we had planned to go out and mark trout in some alpine lakes tomorrow. We may both just end up sleeping in as there is plenty of Patron.

Again IceBalls, sorry for your loss.

Sincerely,

wyoutdoors & FL-20

Haha awesome post man!

I started out with a vex fl8 and freakin loved it!!! Just last year upgraded to the fl20 and man it is the real deal ;D.  I tried my brothers Marcum last year while he used my Vex whithin 5 min. I wanted my Vex back. If it were me I would go grab an fl20 and hit the ice.  good luck on your search and sorry to hear about your loss :'(

I have a 7 or 8 year old Fl20 that has a million miles on it, original battery, great flasher, I also have a lx3tc and love this flasher as well, I really like the hooded screen for outside, I like the flat screen of the vex for in the tent as my fishing buddies can see what going on from the other side of the tent.

VEXILAR ALL THE  WAY!!   Your old vex showed you its value in reliability, and I can tell you mine never had an issue in 15 years either. Im not saying the other flashers are not decent units, I'm just saying that you know what you have in vex. Whatever you choose, any flasher is better than none

Marcum's technology blows away the competition ..... Buying a vexilar would be the equivalent of passing up on the newest flat screen LED smart TV and paying more for a tubed console tv because you are used to it, that being a Vexilar.  ;D ;)

Its no secret that I am a Marcum guy, they have made me a loyal customer by going above and beyond with their customer service. If your going to buy a new flasher you might as well go with the latest and greatest. I myself have gone with a cheaper option to save money in the past and I always end up being unsatisfied. I just end up wanting more and getting what I really wanted at a later date which costs more money in the long run. I have an LX-7 and I must say I absolutely love it and I would not ever trade it for anything. I love the large display, its very easy on the eyes. You can adjust the brightness for when its dark. I also love that you can see what's going on from any angle so my buddies sitting next to me can still see what's going on. The target seperation is the best of anything out there. The display is completely customizable to your preferences. My favorite set up is the black background with 6 color palette returns, I use the chart and vertical zoom. You can even have black and white if you so choose. The sensitivity is amazing, fishing 25ft of water with a size 10 jig I use a sensitivity of 3. There is also a target adjust feature that allows you to adjust the size of the target return signals. dynamic depth allows you to push on and go, no setting depth scales unless you want to. The lx-7 let's you have a 5, 10, 20, or 40ft zoom window that's totally adjustable through the entire water column, not to mention while your zoomed you still have a complete full size view of the entire water column. Using the chart allows you to view history of your jigging depth and jigging strokes so you know exactly what you were doing when you caught your fish. The target seperation allows me to know that when the fish mark touches my jig mark its time to set the hook. To top the entire package off is MarCum's top notch customer service. This is just one mans opinion but I personally believe the lx-7 will give you more detailed information than any other unit on the ice, its up to the angler to determine if they need these features. The other flashers on the market will definitely work and help you catch more fish. If you want the absolute best ice unit get the lx-7, you get what you pay for. There is no other unit out there that can match the target seperation, power, user options, narrow and wide cone angles and resolution in one package like the LX-7.

Kinda wrong about getting what you pay for, $500 for a Vex your being overcharged for outdated technology while paying $700 your getting the best on the market....

I had my first full all out experience with MarCum today, I've played with the LX-5 and a few LX-1's from time to time, but never had one exclusively for a day of fishing.

I've used a FL-20 for quite a few years, I had the chance to pick up a LX-3tc used from a friend for a decent price.  Today I started off with it and used it pretty much all day.  I turned on my Vex for less than 5 minutes and switched right back to the MarCum.  I don't think there's even a comparison from the FL-20 to the LX-3.  I'd take the LX-3 hands down at almost every application I fished in, which was almost always 13-20'.  There was a short period I fished in 25' and in that instance I was not impressed with the zoom, but maybe I just need to get used to it more.  At any rate, it's going to get a couple more outings of full time use and there might be a FL-20 going up for sale to go towards a LX-7.

MarCum all the way. Not a brand pusher, just suggesting the best unit. They are far superior than vexilars in almost every way. I've fished both, wont use another vexilar. I'm not pushing marcum because I have one and am loyal, I'll switch brands in a heartbeat if anyone puts out a better unit for the same price point. Until then, MarCum the way!

Maybe take a look at the LX-6.

The only difference between that and the 7 is the display size and the 6 not being available for the upgrade to 9, correct?  If so I'd probably go that route, I don't need a 8" and will never want that upgrade.

There is a minor basically un-noticable difference in target seperation 1/2" vs 3/4" and the lx-6 also has less screen resolution but that too should be un-noticable since the screen is smaller.

You wont notice any difference unless you are jigging for guppies with your flasher 30 feet away.

With the Cyber Monday sales, I got the itch to go ahead and buy a LX6.  I found it 100$ off and I sold my FL-20 to a friend who thought he was getting a steal and that I'm nuts, so I upgraded my FL-20 to a LX-6 for 75$ ;D ;D ;D ;D
