i addressed this very thing with one of our local wardens last year and the year before as well. his suggestion was to if you hear names, see license plates, write all info down as possible, then report them.
these guys were keeping more than their limits as well, going to vehicle with full bucket, coming back with empy bucket. we were able to figure who they were at later times then they were finally ticketed, for over their limits, but i did also confron them as well, just by telling them "if you don't want them, throw them back", and "here is your cigerette pack you left on the ice" and i also would go around and put the live small perch they left on ice back in hole, most seem to survive, they would see me, but wouldn't say anything. even though i was outnumbered, don't know if they respected my age, or just were ashamed, hopefully both.
point is we possibly can make a difference.

It's nice to read that about several members picking up trash.  Unfortunately, humans are slobs, and I don't think this will ever change.  I really don't like picking up after slobs.  However, at nearly 15 thousand members, can you imagine the amount of trash we could collect.  I think part of being an I/S member should be helping to take care of the environment.  The environment gives us so much....maybe it's time we return the favor.

well said i would love to see everybody get a chance to icefish.

i have no problem with telling people that they are dead wrong for leaving their crap on the ice and needlessly leaving fish on the ice.  I always have my cell phone and i will call it in right then in there.

Sounds great to report them,..but then what? What good does it do?  I have tried in the past to report a very dangerous driver. (no cell phone in those days) and was told that the law enforcement people wouldn't do a thing, not even calling the offender because THEY didn't see this guy driving way above the speed limit weaving in and out of cars including the breakdown lane etc.

The difficult thing for Law Enforcement when it comes to some of these issues is that they are violations that did not occur in their presence.  That requires a Judge to review the facts and determine if there is suffecient evidence to file charges.  The other dillema is that they can be so far away at the time that making it to the scene is very difficult.   The best thing to do is address it with the individual, if they present a problem call 911, and attempt to get a license plate number and description.  That is the best we can do out there.  I know it is frustrating to have to deal with but its the only way to handle it.  There will always be the "tools" that ruin it for everyone else.

The only thing I have ever left on the ice is dead bait fish that died in my bucket. The birds like them, so I've been feeding the birds. Is this not acceptable? If so, I'll stop. Otherwise, if it goes in with me, it goes out with me, along with anyone elses crap that I find. One time I found so many beer cans that the 5 cent return on each came to so much that it ACTUALLY paid for my bait!

XII, sounds good but, 911 calls are for emergencies. Not reporting people who leave trash. They'd probably want to fine you for tying up resources. I understand the aggravation with the problem though. Biggest thing that ticks me off is used fishing line. Talk about a death trap in waiting. I will always pick up fishing line left laying around and stuff it in my pocket, bag or what have you.

ciggarette butts are the worst.
i used to smoke, i didn't always carry the butts out with me, but never left them where they could be seen.
now that i don't smoke, i really can't stand them.

how many places are there that we used to be able to hunt and fish that are now posted because of littering and property abuse?
i pick up other peoples litter, but in a place like the salmon river in pulaski, it's just too much for an individual.
grandpa told me-"never wrestle with a pig. you both get muddy and the pig likes it".

agreed on cig butts. If ya want to send a message start to fine people for littering especially in Pulaski. Tough sh#$ if people dont like it. I dont like finding there mess on the ground either.

Although I agree fully that leaving fish on the ice is a de-handable offence, we must tread lightly or we all suffer. If we get the state involved due to the constant complaints we will be faced with some problems. Just try to take your kids fishing on most of the Delaware River in the summer months! The fly crowd (doing their best to help their sport) have made it almost imposable to take a youngster fishing because of there no kill, no barb, no live bait stance. It used to be nice to take my boys fishing on the river BEFORE they could cast a fly rod. With seemingly every small lake and pond being developed and having to drive for and hour to fish state ponds and lakes it no wonder kids are turning to video games. Remember grabbing your tackle, hopping on your bike, and heading down to the river for a twelve hour day? Over regulation isn't good for anyone except those looking to make money.
