I have been refilling 1 lb tanks for several years with no issues. I have access to a good supply when people dispose the old ones so rotate them when the start looking rough too.
My question is I came across a 5lb recently and see in this thread some of you are refilling them as well. Any tips on fitting, hose style etc. you are using to do this. Thanks.

You can refill any tank. My friend refills his 20# grill tanks off of his big home LP tank....a lot of people don't have large home LP tanks so refilling larger tanks does't work the best.

The 5lb and 11lb tanks are nice, but after an outing of using a couple lbs out of the tanks leaves you with a partially filled tank that doesn't have enough for another trip. So I found them to be about has much work refilling them has the 1lb tanks

Just picked up a kit a Gander Mountain last week for 18$ dollars and a spare tank for $7,  Not sure they had more at the store in Sterling Height, MI.  I have not filled them yet with my 11lb tank.  Figure a couple of these should last all day in my thermal.  I have both an old and a brand new buddy heater, smaller Mr Heater.  Fits both.  Tanks are a tad taller.  There is a valve under the thread that you use an allen wrench to open to let air out while filling.  Once propane starts seeping you close it.  Think I might repurpose the tank holder in the kit for a small table in the shack. Will hold the fish finder nicely.

I've heard its the Big Buddy that has the problem with them.  Flame King is getting a  lot better on price.  I take a 1 lb. and a 5 lb when I go.  5 & 11 lb are pretty pricey on their own.  Some one gave me an old 5 lb one then I had to buy the POL or PLO thingy and it cost $25 bucks.  I do like that size though.
