I've been checked on Houhton Lake a few times. I also called on some guys poaching walleye in the Cut river and the CO was there in less than 10 minutes!

In more than 30 years of fishing, hunting, and ATV riding, I have only been checked a few times, and never on the ice.
As some have said, I wish we could have many more CO's as it would not bother me to be checked all the time, if it would reduce the violators.
Also, they may not respond if you call, but they will never respond if you don't. Make the call if you see a violation.
If your gonna be dumb, You gotta be tough.

OK,lets just say for arguments sake...

A guy or gal in their 70's + does not have a fishing license in there posession when confronted by a CO, should they be ticketed?

I say no...yeah,they could have puchased a senior citizen license, but d**n,these people have done there part in society to have earned a "freeby",don't you think?

My dad is pushing 80 yeras old and not in real good health and spent countless $$ when "younger" on hunting and fishing licenses and wishes he could get back on the ice again (I've offerd to take him but.... :(()

I'll pay the fine for him before I allow the state to say "You are in the wrong.sir"

i always got my all species.  only been checked once, and it was after we launched right next to the CO.  but she just quickly checked our licenses and took a peek at our empty livewell.  i havent even seen a officer on ice.

what all do they check for on atv's?  i thought you didnt need any license if you were only heading out to ice fish and not out playing?  i have my ORV on my 3 wheeler anyway but i didnt know.

But you know the very second you skip out and don't buy that license or permit you will get nailed the very second you get out there. My brother one year after buying $100's worth of license year after year. He skipped out and didn't buy a license one morning because he put it off and we couldn't find an open dealer early that morning. He just said "screw it I won't get checked I'll buy one after we get done fishin" Yeah bad mistake we were only fishing about an hour and here came the man. Actually he looked my brother up when he called into base and gave my brother a lot of slack because he seen he was an avid license buyer and didn't nail him for everything he could have. But he still got a ticket for no license. You know I think that really broke my mrother spirt. Because he hasn't been hunting or fishing with me a handful of times since that. He and I both know it was his own fault. But he just lost the spirt and hasn't been. Kinda sad maybe I'm gonna call him now and see if he will go with me tommorow  ;D

True. Not worth the risk.

I like to buy licenses on line and make a few copies and have them everywhere. I have seen them coming from across the lake, walking. Nice guy. No hassle.
