Very lazy anglers. Sad to see.
« on: Mar 29, 2009, 06:25 PM »
Went for a drive to rivers lake and saw the remains of one shack that burned to the ice over two months ago. Gatorhunter is so right when he says ban the permanent shacks. Will be many lost lures on the following:

This shack was brought up in another post and I think it was Deerhunter who said that he knew who the owner was.  At the very least resources should pull it off and send the owner (if they can find who that is) the bill for the cleanup.
Take er easy!

A ban on perm shacks is a bit harsh. :-\

Here in MN, your name and address, drivers licence number, or the number on your fishing licence must be painted on the outside. You also must buy a tag from the DNR for $11 to register it. If the shack isn't removed by the removal date, you will be paying a tow company to do it. You will also be paying a fine and any other cleanup and disposal costs associated with it. The shack removal date is early enough for them to deal with it before the ice gets bad.

Some guys are total stinking pigs. I know a guy who lived on the south side of Mille Lacs and spring shoreline cleanup was quite a chore. The bulk of what washed up was green propane bottles, blocks of wood, and plastic bags of human poo.

Because of a bad apple you want to ban permanent shacks???  Yes, fine the lazy SOB that did this and take away his fishing privileges. Obviously he has no respect for the resource or other fisherman.  From a different perspective There are a overwhelming majority of permanent shack owners who enjoy the comfort and accessibility of one. Personally, I fish ALOT in the winter and believe you me I would much rather spend my time with lines in the water than fumbling around in the dark setting up and tearing down a portable not to mention all the extra gear you have to cart around and transport. I enjoy being able to cook a hot meal and adjust the thermostat to my comfort level. If you choose to sit huddled up in a confined tent with a small space heater have a ball. Because of one person's irresponsibility don't condemn the rest of us to a portable!

Thats why it's important to know who owns the shacks around where you're fishing! That way if

the person doesn't take it off the ice in time, you'll be able to give information to authorities! :)
