Nope but Sleeping Buffalo has RV hook-ups or easiest way is to buy or borrow generator. That way you can park next to the lake.  I just stay in Malta and drive which is kinda pain in butt.

There's out houses and it's not always plowed, other than that, it's right on the lake, not much too it in the winter.

Also remember that a lot of Montana FAS sites lock their outhouses over the winter months, so as to not require maintenance.

They were open last winter.  I think a lot of the state and county areas stay open through the winter, bring your own TP.

TP is ALWAYS packed--- usually carry too much... lol... looked in my hunting pack last night and somehow I ended up with 3 ROLLS in there... not sure how... but I guess I was covered in that category!

I remember last year someone posted a map of the place with a couple fishing spots... cant seem to find it when searching through the Nelson threads... is there any area I should start? Never been up there before... but always up for the fun of searching...

Henry is spot on.  West Side Sports in Malta has maps of the lake but better yet, they'll dial you in on where the fish are biting and on what.  I've found them to be extremely reliable as to ice conditions and the latest fishing reports.  As for camping near the lake, most of us old timers gave that up years ago.  There are numerous motels in Malta that are really inexpensive and reservations are seldom needed.  The drive to the lake takes 30 minutes which is nothing compared to the drive from Missoula to Nelson. Besides IMO, hauling a camper on the high-line in the winter is a pain in the #@*.

I just got my early x-mas present... a new wall tent--- anxious to use it!

I talked with some family that just got back from hunting up in the Missouri Breaks... said some of the small ponds up there had a couple inches of ice on them... and that was before this cold snap! Hope this continues...

Did haul my loaded construction trailer from Missoula to Homer, AK nine years ago.  I was alone and it was hell on wheels.  Talked to myself a lot and one thing I kept saying was that I'd never do this again.  To get back on track regarding Nelson, staying in a wall tent near the lake seems glamorous but if the wind starts howling, next stop Minnesota.  I've witnessed sustained 40 MPH winds with gusts of 60 many times.  Couldn't even stand on the ice. Pulled gear and waited it out in Malta.  Can't imagine what would happen to any style tent.  Just an honest FYI.

I hadn't even considered the bad wind on the hi-line... was just trying to justify the purchase with the wife ;D
May have to rethink this...

That's funny.  Just got off of the weather site and saw the same thing. I typically plan a trip to Malta between the 2nd & 3rd week in December and there's enough ice for my four wheeler by then.  This year seems no different.  Can't wait to start chasing "eyes".
