How does the battery treat you after you haven't used it for a while? (yea just what I thought)

Trickle charger, comes with one ;)

Your advantages would be:
Ligher
No Fuel to Mix
No Maintenance
Looks Cooler
Makes Margaritas

When they offer a lifetime warranty on the battery, I'll buy one. My dewalt  20v lithium drills are super strong last long and charge quick. The only downfall is, how long do these batteries take a charge before crapping out. I'm sure the 40v ion battery is up there in price! I think its 80.00-100.00 for my 20v Dewalt battery? I only cut at the most 20 holes a day so it would last long enough per day but how many years will it last! ????

i think some of the advantages of the ION are light weight easy to handle and it starts with the push of the button. and for some folks like my 80 something uncle hes loving it. he can now drill his own holes again, my wife even get's out and punches a few cause its so fun and effortless.
when my gasser and the ION sit side by side its ION all the way.
sure the battery will probably need replacing at some point, the ease of use and convenience for some that cant handle the gassers or are too crippled to run the hand units this things perfect

It says 600-800 full charge cycles, so even if its an exaggerated and you cut the number by 75% less and you still have better than a ten year shelf life on battery. you cant compare a power tool ( a impact drill or the like ) to this. you will never ever use the ice auger in the same capacity.

Pulled out my Jiffy to make sure she was good to go for tomorrow. Havent fired it up since last season, and had the carb rebuilt this fall.

Primed her three times, first pull, fired right up...

Looked, down, saw some dripping. LOOSE HOSE!!!
Tightened it down, should be all set..

Couldnt help thinking about the Ion tho  =(

I had the opportunity to try out Bobbyg's ION this morning. It's IMPRESSIVE! I'm old school and will never give up my old Jiffy 30, but this thing is cool... Faster than I thought it was going to be and it drilled effortlessly. My Jiffy will kick it's a** in a race, but who's racing? I was somewhat embarrassed to fire up my Jiffy on Wallum Lake yesterday morning and break the peacefulness and the absolute silence. The ION would have been perfect... Here's a vid...I hope...

I have to say this is a great auger, yes I did compete with repete's 30 year old auger and he whooped my butt. And he may have been faster on the cut but he did have a 6 inch auger to the 8 inch auger on the ION. But like I said before being the fastest doesn't matter to me.

But if you look at it this way, I pulled my sled to the spot i wanted to fish this morning and there was a guy already there pulling like a mad man on his auger. It felt good to pick up the ION and hold the trigger and just start cutting, and by the way I cut 12 holes and was done. He was still fighting with it when I put the ION down. So that's one way to compare speed? no

O and I also did not keep the battery warm, It was in my garage that is about the same temp as the outside temp. So the battery was  cold to start and it still cut like a champ all day.

how do the batteries hold up in the cold? i dont know if that was aksed or do you not have to worry about it with those types of battery? i know the older dewalt 18volt batteries dont like the cold at all.

seemed fine I left it on the auger all night and it was 8 deg in the morning and I never brought the battery in to warm it and it never stopped cutting. I am very happy with the auger, I do think it wont like dull blades at all. So keep the blades sharp and you wont have a problem.
