I was undecided on wether or not to post these pics, as there is no ice involved but I needed to go fishing...the local lakes have 20+ feet of ice preventing a canoe launch as well as shore fishing...so it looks like Im starting my Ice thread the same way I started my MFF thread...with my fly rod at THE FARM

ChowderHead and I took the wives out to catch our dinner a week or so back, we stuck it out for 4 hours and brought home some tastey rainbows

Chowderswife and he started us off with some perfect eaters

look at these colours

Then Chowder and I traded off large bows, mine out up quite the fight, love to hear that drag scream

We agreed on keeping 5 each and I caught mine first so took some pics waiting on Chowder to catch up

Here is my 5

Chowders 5

Heres hoping there is ice, as I just rebooked my Simcoe trip for the 27th&28th...more to follow

Wll I finally got my first steps on ice this season, it felt great to get out and drop a few lines. The fishing was slow, not flags and few bites on the jig. I must have drilled 30 holes and the camera could not spot a single fish

Oh Well, I was on the ice and that is all that matters...a few fishless pictures

just curious, isnt the reason the spring bobber on your rod is there...is so that you dont have to use a slipbobber  ???

yep, but that is not a slip bobber, and when you  are not jigging or holding the rod and waht to keep the jig at a certain depth, you cant rely on a spring bobber

How come they all have small tails?
The nameless men who nameless rivers travel,
And in strange valleys greet strange deaths alone;
The grim, intrepid ones who would unravel
The mysteries that shroud the Polar Zone.

Well today is my 28th B-day, so I took the day off to do some more walleye fishing on the Bay of Quinte....the day was super slow to start I had to move three times befor I even marked a single fish....and when I did they werent Walleye

Start this off with a pic of my new fishtrap Guide...Oh do I love this thing..roomy, warm and holds everything

The Day started to pick up just after noon, and I was using a sidewinder with a minnow and was pulling fish up off the bottom, but no takes...I downsized and expected perch, but still no takers...so I went to old faithfull....a buckshot spoon with a dropper trebel tipped with a minnow hear (Shhhh! dont tell) and bang....the perch were inhailing the thing...I have 5 fish on f drops and they included these two 11 inchers

The fishing stayed hot for three hours...I had to leave my hut to ask what the Perch regs were on the Bay as I forgot my reg book.  I cuaght well over 40 fish and kept about 15 of the larger ones..I lost a few but hey, all in all it was a great day

Here is my second tourny entry this year...an 11 inch perch

Here is the cutting board befor dinner..MMMMMMMMM

  • Ice anglers walk on water.
Way to go icejunky, a nice looking pike and a pile of good sized perch, and a very good way to spend your b-day.

My b-day is groundhog day, I think I will spend it the way you did. ;)
