Lake George is real close, so I am assuming that the channels at Snow Lake are good to go.

Glad to hear George is getting close.  I hope we have better luck there this year than last!  Everything dissappeared last year.  If there's enough I will be up there Saturday and Sunday.

How well does lake george freeze by the channels going in and out of the lake? I fished it from the boat for the first time this summer and its definatly a lake I want to try this year.

The north channel that feeds the lake usually freezes first and holds up longer than the rest of the lake.  I have fished all along that section and near the boat launch on the west side.  I have not tried the south end of the lake where the creek leaves, not sure I have even seen anybody over there either.  Most people tend to stick to the north channel and the boat launch.

Ive seen some guys above the dam fishing the millpond.  Not sure if they do much good but there was a weekend last year that the same two guys sat over the same two holes the whole weekend.  So, Id assume they were catching something.

I fished there with a buddy from fremont and he took me straight to the north channel and we hammered the bluegill and crappie. We also tied in to some monster pike and seen some huge eyes. Thanks for the info I am a little more cautious on lakes I dont know always better safe than swimming. ;D

I'd like to hit the shore by the marina as I have caught some monster gills in the fall over there.
I'm not getting skunked, I'm just eliminating water

I've only been to George once, but could not get on due to plowed snow blocking driveway access. The public launch appeared to be in Mich. Is Mi. license required to get on/off at that point ??? Any info would be appreciated.

yes it is.  the north part of the lake and ramp are in Michigan.  Its hard to enforce on the ice since there isnt a line drawn but theyll get you at the ramp.  Ive heard that its ok but a CO told me grandpa that a MI license is needed.

Are the good ones bitin there? Usualy it's shoulder to shoulder fishin up there. Hard to find a place to park, other than just parkin on the road. 1st and 3rd Crooked locked up , Lk Pleasant froze over, Jimmerson froze over, didn't see much ice on James other than Crybom bay, don't know if that's how you spell it. Going to check Walters and a few others today. Hopin Walters is good to go.

I have heard the same thing, that both licenses are accepted.  I have never seen DNR show up during the winter.  I have seen them a few times in the summer, but they have never asked me to present my license.  Not sure if it was MI or IN DNR.

thats good to know, ill have to look into it.  ive never been checked but ive always heard that you needed a MI license if you take your fish off their.  On the water ive heard that both are honored mainly because itd be too hard to prove where the line is.  its definitely worth looking into a little more.

The ramp is in MI, but the lake is 1/2 MI and 1/2 IN.  They will take either license.

I maybe wrong but also if the ramp is on Mich side you have to abide by there possession limits when leaving.

it use to be if you entered from the access in mi you could only have 1 line and 1 tip up...MI laws. and if you leave from the ramp the limit (gills) applies. not sure on the # of lines as michigan is set to change.
So fish by the most restrictive rules and your good!

the line thing was explained by a man in brown and we were in the michigan area off the dock.
