How about mid March? The fishing will be much better. The smelt bite on higgins only gets better as things warm. I'm sure the weather will be better. Which means the beer will not freeze in my hand.

I would like to go also. But i have never been there and dont' know exactly where to go. so it would be nice to meet you poeple and see where to go to catch some fish. The weekend of the feb 14 would be fine with me or any time in feb. Would someone be interested in showing me where to go and what they are using in that lake to catch fish. Thanks

Ive got a cabin up by the houghton lake area and the reports ive heard was theres about 20 inches of ice on there now and the fishing has been pretty steady by lymans

is anyone concerned that this is the states winter free fishing weekend? I have never fished a free winter weekend but i know the summer weekend can get alittle crowded.

Well the next weekend was the Higgins lake winter fest and the following one was Gull lake gtg, so getting kinda cramped for time, cant be too sure about march so..............

Well I guess we can meet at the Northeast DNR launch. Anybody that cant get there by 7:00 am, I will have my radio on 7 and My cell is 989-302-0609. I will either talk you in to where we are, Or come and get you. I have been driving on for weeks now, was approx. 30" of ice this morn. Should be a person or two with quads also that can help ferry people, Fisher 50 has a small trailer too that works behind the quad.

PS bring your cleats or creepers, needed them this weekend.

Hi guys...I see your going to be up at Houghton Lake this weekend as well....Me and 5 of my buddies are doing our annual Houghton Ice Fishing Trip this weekend too. Were getting up there Friday night then leaving Monday morning...Didn't know if anyone heard how the Walleye are biting as well as the ice conditions...Should be a great weekend to knock some big boys I hope...If you happen to find anything out could you please let me know....Also were staying at Poplar Cabin site on the North side of the Lake.

Its the Sportsmans Resort about a mile past the launch to the north, or if you have a quad Gary you can ride right up to it from where we will be fishing, about a half mile by lake. LOL

Hi Mike, Bad news for me, I wont be able to make it this weekend after all. My truck was starting to make some noises a couple of days ago and figured out its in the rear axle. I'll be spending part of my weekend (and pay check) and I assume then some getting it fixed.......

Only good part, I'm assuming I'll have to wait on parts so if the weather holds I'll be able to get out around here for a bit this weekend.

Have fun, be safe and try to leave a few fish in lake for when I do get a chance to come up!

Gary if you are coming that late you can go to Beas party store right across the road and down just a little from the launch, they have minnows and other Bait, Dont open till 9:00 tho thats why I dint mention em. When you get in give me a call either on channel 7 or on my cell phone, should be able to come pick you up.

My weekend was putting new bearings in the rear axle of my truck and u-joints in both (4x4) driveshafts. She drives like a new truck again! Hopefully be able to get up to HL before walleye season closes!
