Usually a ham sandwich, cool ranch chips, some captn' & coke, some Fireball, & enough Bud to keep from getting dehydrated.  If it's a special day, I'll add some Bols peppermint schnapps.

Anybody else do the grilled ham and cheese on top of the Buddy heater?  That's good stuff right there!

Q

How do you do the grilled cheese on the buddy???  I made a wire rack for hot dogs above my Coleman lantern last year, but never heard of the grilled cheese.

Among other things sunflower seeds.  Can always tell on later trips which holes I did best at with all the hulls frozen in.

Just make em at home before you go out.

Couple slices of bread
Butter one side
Shaved ham and a couple of Kraft singles
Buttered side out
Wrap it up in the heavy duty aluminum foil

Just set em on top of your Buddy and flip em every few minutes.  Careful, they will burn.  Takes somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes on the heater.  Good stuff!

Hey SubMan,
I surrender.... You Win!   That is one heckuva sandwich.  One that I'd likely not touch off the ice but guarantee I'd be all over it after a full day of jiggin' em' up especially while still on the ice.  That and a cold brew and I may start thinking I've fallen thru the ice somehow, died, and have somehow landed a spot in heaven.

I hope I run across you on the ice some time and you're in a generous mood.

1. Warm mayo sauce baked ziti (moms recipe, my wife always uses too much mayo)
2. hot pepper, peanut butter and mayo sandwiches
3. white bread soaked in egg whites on crackers, with or without olives, both are good
4. sardine and horseradish applesauce (dad eats this one, I do too but I put in mayo and pickle juice)
5. Pops moonshine (when its good its good but when its bad he makes you drink it anyway. He's always saying "I'm not going to waist it and I'm not dragging it back, now hurry up and finish the last bit. We don't leave till all the food is gone too, now hurry up, I'm gettin' cold."

Great post!
I hadn't even heard of allot of what was suggested, and had to do a couple of Google searches to see if it would classify as snack-food!
Sunflower seeds are a mainstay, and I've never had them freeze on the ice yet!
Snickers.... always good frozen or not...
I make my own deer jerky and that is something that I don't get tired of either, add a little crushed red pepper to the mix and you have something to keep you warm on those really cold days. Last but not least....Diet Coke to wash everything down! ;D
I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous!

are you being serious???   none of those things sound good!!!  except the moonshine!!  Maybe pops knew a thing more about moonshine than the Kentucky hillfolk I got some from once, but it would have been hard to tell if it was a good or bad batch.   High speed connection wasted though!!!   I am here to tell you... if you are being serious about the sardine and horseradish applesauce,  your schwartz is FAR greater than mine!!!!

It's a mainstay with the guys I fish with. At 11:30 the coleman grill is fired and and we cook Pasquele's hot garlic sausage. By far the best sausge around. It draws guys from all over the ice wanting to know what we are cooking. Boy they sure due hit the spot!!!!!!

Chowder that was started the day before and grilled cheese.

For "filler" snack in between some jerky and black coffee keep thing going along. Then at lunch break out the Coleman stove and cook away.

Holy Cow! (or pig in this case...)  Does that thing come with a Surgeons General's warning label on it?  Looks awesome.  If I fall down on the ice after eating this thing, my cardiologist is on speed dial...lol
